EPub The close-up view I enjoy a slow burn but this one did feel a tad too slow for my liking However the ending totally made up for it I found the ending to be SO creative and unique and I absolutely loved the twist 352 I had a really tough time with this book because I just couldn t get into it The beginning was slow to pick up and then in the middle I started to think for sure this was all a psychotic break and we would learn that the MC was in an institution or similar because it was just getting progressively far fetched but not in a fun thriller way in an overly detailed way Eventually around the 80% mark the payoff starts to happen and honestly it just didn t warrant the build we did to get there There were four or five interconnected plot points all converging but it felt like it could ve been a dramatic if any one of those was the main point The weaving in of articles and social media threads lended itself well to the story and I did enjoy one particular reveal at the end that they actually did kill her I was shocked but overall this wasn t my favorite Thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC 352 Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the advanced reader copyThis book had my heart racing with each page turn It s hard to feel surprised by thrillers these days with so many of them out there but Pip Drysdale managed to keep me on my toes There were really smart twists that felt surprising but also plausible and the ending surprised me in a way that I m still thinking about 352 Pip Drysdale s latest psychological thriller The Close Up is a gripping exploration of dreams and nightmares colliding Zoe Ann Weiss moves to LA hoping to make her mark as a novelist but when her debut fails and her love interest ghosts her it feels like her big dreams are slipping away Fast forward three years her love interest is back and famous and just as things start to look up a sinister stalker starts enacting scenes crimes from her thriller novel The book has a slow start but once it picks up around the three quarter mark the tension escalates dramatically I felt like the standout was how blurred the lines were between reality and fiction the erratic unreliable narrator and the dark side of fame we don t always get to see Thank you to Simon Schuster for this ARC copy in exchange for an honest review 352 Wow What a ride that was This is one of those books you know you shouldn t read late at night but you can t help it you need to keep reading and turning those pages I lost count how many times I gasped this incredible thriller is so clever and original I particularly loved that the main character is a writer and that it was set in LA Zoe is stuck writing her next book and at the same time meets up with an old fling Some of her problems start to disappear but a whole lot of other problems arise After becoming the talk of the town and all over social media Zoe has to deal with a stalker It s so creepy but you just can t get enough I really wish I could say but I can t That ending was full on and just wow I was left totally shocked scared and mortified I just cannot believe this If you love dark twisty thrillers filled with heart racing suspense then this book is for you The best Thank you so much harpercollinsaustralia for sending me this copy in exchange for my honest review 352 Zoe Weiss moved from London to Los Angeles with the dream of publishing a book and her dream came true Unfortunately her debut novel Fractured was a flop and now three years later her agent and editor are on her back to give them a second story Zoe has a tremendous case of writer s block though so until she can figure out a plot for her sopho novel she s working at a flower shop until fate comes knocking Right when she moved to LA she met a bartender named Zach Hamilton They had three phenomenal days together then he completely ghosted her and became a huge movie star Now years later Zoe is making a floral delivery when she runs into Zach who has become a multimillionaire and household name She s hoping he won t even remember her but not only does he remember he seems happy to see her and invites her to his house After she signs a non disclosure agreement they begin dating again and Zoe s writer s block is disappearing Zach was the muse for her first book and NDA be damned he will be the inspiration for her new book as well. The close up game Things are fine until nude pictures of her and Zach in his pool end up on Page Six and a heart is found on her windshield just as the stalker in her first book put a heart on a car Then when Zoe is doxxed and gets a message asking if she would die for Zach she realizes that s the second threat from her book It looks as though she now has a stalker of her own who is reenacting every crazy thing from Fractured This is scary because at the end of that book the stalking victim dies Meanwhile Zoe keeps writing about what s happening to her knowing her second book will be a bestseller because it s all true. The close up game I love books about writers and Zoe was a good character She feels out of place in LA she knows some people but doesn t really have any real friendships and her frustration and fear over her second book is making her freeze up She s a slightly unreliable narrator but she knows it and embraces it while writing her second book which is eventually titled The Close Up The ending of this was also good though I wish the epilogue went into detail This was a very quick and entertaining read with quirky characters and a great plot 4. Book the upper room The suspense and sense of intrigue drew me down a rabbit hole filled with celebrities authors stalkers and so much Flailing author come florist Zoe reconnects with an old flame bartender Zach who has since become a famous actor and that is where the wild ride begins Strap yourself in and set aside time to read this book in one sitting you will not be able to put it down It is a nonstop thrill ride that had me gasping and the ending literally blew my mind Fame and floristry combine to produce one hell of a thriller A very cleverly written story a fantastic LA setting and just enough spice to heat things up With plenty of unreliable characters your mind will spin as the story is revealed A must read Thank you Pip Drysdale and Harper Collins for this early reading copy it is my book of the year All the stars for this one I know everyone who picks it up will love it as much as I did 352 5 Stars Review coming 352 3.
