The Slayer's Magic: A YA Fantasy Adventure (Beads of Bone Book 1) By C.J. Hosack
Slayer legend book series
Site_link post a commentIt took me several chapters to grasp this world of ancestral magic and get absorbed I love how the author makes the main character Ryn s goal of finding out who she is and why she doesn t belong the readers ambition It leaves the reader speculating Finding familial friendship with newcomers Zo and his younger brother Regg both fire wielders and healers Ryn goes on an adventure for many things Best friend Yll as a bird shifter who finds romance with Regg also has a significant role to play while romance blooms between Zo and Golden Boy gorgeous Iden Betrayal and pranks Disclosed truths and revelations shape this story Mean girl snobby Prym also adds character with Ryn s coming of age growth Sentimental moments that brings tears to the eye but I am still wondering about the mystery surrounding Ryn s origin I hope the next book leads to clues and a reveal Kindle Edition I really loved this book I am a genealogist so my passion about research learning from one s family history and utilizing scant sources that are often buried in the recesses of an archive is ignited with this story But even better the characters are well developed and I found myself caring about their feelings anxieties hopes fears and unique perspectives The main character is an adoptee who has never felt like she really belonged anywhere not in her family and not in her society which is obsessed with magical abilities that are passed down through biological bloodlines Several characters experience the absence of belonging and loss of community It is poignant as we have each felt that dagger at some time in our lives That s one of the many things in this story that is so relatable The characters also develop new avenues of belonging which brings hope to the reader and definitely makes me look forward to the rest of the series eagerly awaiting these CJ Hosack I appreciate stories that make me think and consider new perspectives and understanding of people and this book really provided that Even better it is written for a YA audience It s an adventure story full of magic and mystery that also gets our teens and adults thinking about new ways to value the human experience Kindle Edition While this book may not have been to my personal taste I can certainly understand its appeal It presents captivating ideas and solid worldbuilding though it may struggle at times to effectively convey these aspects There were some challenges with clarity in terms of its direction and certain plot points and twists that were illogical to me. The slayer's magic epub book I made it about halfway through the book before deciding not to finish it The pacing felt slow to me but I recognize that this could be well suited for younger readers At that point in the story I felt there had been little of consequence happening and some events seemed disconnected from the narrative Additionally there were various hints at worldbuilding lore that remained unexplained leaving me feeling somewhat lost in the story. Slayer legend book series I do feel it s important to mention that one of the main characters appears to be queer In this case his portrayal raised some concerns for me as the book s universe seems to be inherently opposed to queerness The character s experiences felt unnecessarily harsh and there were elements of his depiction that leaned into harmful stereotypes While I understand that societal perceptions may play a role in this portrayal I believe it s important to address these issues. The slayer's magic kindle book It s a young adult fantasy novel and I found it a fun read The author created a world and brought the characters to life within it I really liked the concept of the magical library I also appreciated the fact that there wasn t much romance in the story and the connections between the characters focused on friendship Romance isn t always necessary for a good story and sometimes it s refreshing to have a story without romance. The Slayer's magicbricks login I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review Kindle Edition I enjoyed this novel and want to read the next in the series The story is about an adopted Ordinary teen who does not come from one of the Ancestor lineages who have magic She and her mother are the only ones in the village without magic and as she has grown from child to teen she has become increasingly ostracized as they gain their hereditary magic She wants to go to the Library to research her lineage but doesn t have access to it She does find a way to gain accessI love libraries so I liked that the library was significant in the story The main character feels that she does not fit in to which most people should be able to relate A secondary main character feels he doesn t fit in because he is LGBTQ Teens have issues with their parents Peer pressure affects friendships In other words the characters are experiencing realistic issues.
