Radical Rest: Notes on Burnout, Healing and Hopeful Futures By Evie Muir

5 Radical Rest by Evie Muir We re burnt out Exhausted anxiety ridden over worked and under resourced We cannot simply fix ourselves under a system that demands and takes so much of us Through a Black Feminist abolitionist and nature allied lens Evie Muir takes us on a journey of regeneration that reimagines what a world of true rest radical rest would look like and how that would feel I originally thought this was going to be a self help book However it s informative and has a lot of research and interview within it which caused me to read it slower than I initially intended due to wanting to take the information in better Radical Rest helps make sense of the exhaustion we all so often feel especially Black women who have been taught that their role is to care for everyone but themselves This book is a reminder of why I need to take is slow and relax when I m feeling overwhelmed and exhausted I need to take care of myself before trying to take care of others Society would like to see us burn out see us doing the most on the bare minimum to keep the capitalist society running But what about our mental health Our physical health Radical Rest reminds us that society s ideal is not the same as ours Is reminds us to turn out brains off and enjoy nature To enjoy life While an institutional awareness of burnout could offer the opportunity for some to be taken seriously in their suffering it also risks endangering Black queer disabled people of colour By rendering us surplus it may also be the catalyst for the kinds of further state surveillance and oppression we have seen elsewhere institutionalisation denied citizenship criminalisation or the removal of children. Radical restroom 5 as stated I was expecting of a self help book usually with the nature of this book I wouldof listen to the audio rather than just read the paper back I feel like this took some of the good experience away for me However this is just my person choice as I always listen to the audio books for informative books Thank you Dark Matter for my advance copy 315

We re burnt out Exhausted anxiety ridden over worked and under resourced Yet the solution cannot possibly lie in self care yoga retreats or the odd massage when this bone numbing fatigue is a symptom of a desperately unhealthy society We cannot simply fix ourselves under a system that demands and takes so much of us What is needed is a complete reimagining that puts a thriving life of abundance first and foremost Through a Black Feminist abolitionist and nature allied lens Evie Muir takes us on a journey of regeneration that reimagines what a world of true rest radical rest would look like how that would feel As they look to activists and cultural influences past and present for guidance Evie explores the core emotions associated with moving from rage grief and anxiety to the hope joy and plenty that deep change can bring Along the way Evie speaks with those who have been disproportionately impacted by and working in resistance to burnout Black queer disabled activists of colour And what becomes clear as we hear about these lived experiences is that a world of radical rest must exist in community with one another with our bodies and with the natural world Bold vulnerable and deeply honest Radical Rest is a blueprint for change and a salve for the soul Step in and open the door to a hopeful and healed future Radical Rest Notes on Burnout Healing and Hopeful Futures.
