Cross-Country creepshow art Guay s Horror Comedy Crypt motto you don t have to be weird to join but you will eventually adapt and learn from the very best we re making recommendations of books to read and or comfort zones from which to escape And Aaron Cook s Cross Country Creeps Volume 1 definitely fits into the latter category for me In all honesty I don t think I ve read a collection of short stories hint like this one in over 4 decades I m 27 btw ooo now there s an idea for a little tiny tome too I mean I do like the NETFLIX series Love Death Robots which I guess is kind of like this or not What I m trying say poorly is that this is something that I generally don t go for in no small part because just as soon as I get connected to the characters they re gone Or because I have no clue to go about rating or commenting on the collections as a whole Or did I just answer my own conundrum there The collection starts off with an Atlas which winds up being a state by state summary or as horror afficianadoes know it a Forum of Foreshadowing of the stories to come This runs alphabetically by state from Alaska to Missouri and you honestly can t read it without thinking well he she they are screwed but keep reading anyway Oh and if you re like me and from somehow unalphabetically included namely North Carolina do not take offense because a I m sure the author will eventually get to us and b I m not entirely sure I want things like this happening near my extended family anyway But Cook s stories are certainly interesting in at very least their scope of both human nature and the odd assortment of weird and often deadly things many of us some of us none might come across at some point in our lives It s not what I d typically consider horror no but like the original Twilight Zone stuff well as long as we exclude any episodes with William Shatner in them OK maybe not TZ but still along the lines of the convoluted Scooby Doo Mysteries I particularly enjoyed trying to think of which world some of these stories might have belonged to too In terms of me diving into any number of similar collections again noting my nature tends towards wanting to know everyone s motivation and what came before next etc I ll leave it as we ll see In the disinterest of full closure huh I ve got a couple of collections on tap for this same challenge and after that who knows But it was an interesting experience and a well written set of snippets snippellas to boot Sure I liked some a lot than others but that seems to be the beast of nature Anywho pats on the back to all of us that aren t wearing styrofoam based headgear Ruh roh.
