Before Stardust and The Bratva Chris Folly waged war in the mountains of Afghanistan Chris Folly Archibald Skip Chambers Logan Rios Jack Proto Elijah Lij Washington and Will Phan are the Young Bloods They are a young elite team in the Army s 10th Mountain Division who are used to being sent off on odd jobs Missions set up by shadowy forces back home that will never see the light of day Deep in the mountains of the Hindu Kush Chris and his team are tasked with finding and killing Abbas Amir Rahman a rising star in the world of terrorism But this somewhat simple mission goes off the rails when their target is nowhere to be found and the Young Bloods find themselves surrounded With overwhelming odds against them Chris must lead his team to safety but the Taliban are the least of his worries when forces behind the scenes start to work against him Set right before the events of The First Chris Folly Thriller this short story shines light on Chris time in Afghanistan and the work he did in the shadows to defend his country Perfect for fans of Jack Carr Call of Duty and Rainbow Six Siege Odd Job A Chris Folly Short Story Chris Folly Series Some odd jobs are easy others are hard This particular odd job was difficult It hits you with a one two punch of adrenaline I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Chris Folly and Company Company being his war compatriots dubbed the Young Bloods I enjoyed my time so much that as soon as I finished reading I downloaded Homecoming what is considered the first novel in the Chris Folly series. I don t know if Jake has formal military training but his books and writing seem like he does Even though this was a military story it didn t take a particular political side It was just a fast paced action packed war torn tale. Kudos to Widmer for not making Folly into a superhero type entity where he is untouchable and bulletproof That is what I expected but was surprised by the fact he is a human and is susceptible to injury That made the believability of this military story believable for me Folly is a badass through and through but sometimes maybe even most times even the toughest most brutal military trained individuals get knocked down but deep inside they have that never give up drive Folly had it They always get up again they do follow through and they get to complete their objective, This shorter work is an excellent sampling of Jake Widmer s writing It is an intense beginning lead in to the ongoing Chris Folly series saga English
