Anna s Evidence by Jonathan Baldie is an intriguing novel about a young woman s effort to achieve justice for her father Trevor who was shot before her own eyes Initially Anna believes that the police will apprehend the man responsible for the crime However after discovering evidence about years old military misconduct by Trevor s commanding officer who is now running for governor Anna worries that the man responsible for the murder will not be brought to justice What follows is a dangerous cat and mouse drama in which Anna s life is threatened The character of Anna shows intensity of emotion It is clear that she deeply loves and respects her father Together they have operated a Jiu jitsu school and they also share grief from the loss of Anna s mother a year earlier When the police arrive to investigate her Trevor s murder Anna is reunited with her ex boyfriend Danny As in real life the loss of a close family member can lead a person to need close personal connection with another human In this case Anna and Danny rekindle their relationship as they work together to resolve Trevor s murder Yet Anna does not find it easy to excuse Danny for a previous betrayal At various times Anna experiences loss attraction and emotional pain. Anna’s Evidence kindle The plot moves smoothly and quickly There is no mystery to solve about the true murderer the man who plotted and arranged the killing However each chapter reveals about the deviousness of the murderer and potential corruption within the police force that may stall or submarine the investigation As Anna and Danny try to reveal to the police the identity of the murderer and his motive the gubernatorial candidate works ruthlessly to try to eliminate the pair The conclusion of each chapter will have readers wanting to press on to see how Anna will overcome the challenges thrown into her path as she works to reveal the truth I found a few plot faults that are likely the result of having to move the story along and complete a novel without boring a reader in the excessive small details For example it was stated that Anna had gone to college for pre law Yet when arrested she never requests an attorney to be present during her questioning Also readers who have watched police procedurals on television will recognize the surprising speed at which a scientist can complete results for numerous forensic tests While these fine points might be noticeable to the reader I give the author a pass based on his likely motivation to keep the pace of the novel from getting stalled.
