The Last Pantheon By Tade Thompson

All about the pantheon The Last PantheonI received this eBook for free in exchange for an honest review from LibraryThing Early Reviews The Last Pantheon is a compelling novella that explores the nuanced line between heroes and villains through the lens of African superheroes Co authored by Tade Thompson and Nick Wood this story diverges from traditional comic book narratives by offering a fresh perspective rooted in African culture and history An enjoyable read to be sure Read the full review on my blog The Thugbrarian Review at Crime Science Fiction Fantasy Tade Thompson makes it clear that he doesn t consider this his best work It was written when he was still an inexperienced writer and he thinks it could be improved by a rewrite that he is reluctant to do now that his co author cannot contribute. The Last pantheonview And I would agree with him There are stylistic flaws that we could catalogue if we so desired but this would seem petty for a novel that has some great ideas The story examines what it means to be a superhero and what could superheroes do to improve life for everyone on Earth The two superheroes disagree about the answer to this question and leads them into the conflict that culminates in the fight at the end of the book. The pantheon official website There is much to get your teeth into here Most of us will have wondered what we would do were we a superhero and after decades of thinking about it I have realised I have no idea how to make the world a better place For me that makes this book an easy five star read despite its faults Your mileage may vary of course but given this book is cheap currently free on s Kindle Unlimited scheme I think it should be near the top of your reading list Crime Science Fiction Fantasy A really interesting exploration of what African superheroes would be like against the history of the last hundred years Fascinating and well worth your time to read Full review Crime Science Fiction Fantasy

What makes a hero What makes a villain Forget Marvel and DC forget the Avengers and the Justice League this is a story of African superheroes written by African authors who share a deep love of the comic book and longstanding immersion in its culture As well as co writing the narrative Tade Thompson has provided the cover art and nine internal illustrations which appear throughout the text see below It should be stressed however that this is not a comic book It is a novella interspersed with illustrations A thrilling story that demonstrates the fragile boundary between hero and villain as two superpowered brothers find themselves on opposite sides of the moral divide a story that provides stark contrast to the treatment of African superheroes by the big comic book companies even as it entertains In addition to the novella itself this volume also includes interviews articles and even some of the initial email exchanges between the two authors when first discussing to project these appear as bonus material at the back of the book The Last Pantheon is dedicated to the memory of Nick Wood 1961 2023 The Last Pantheon.
