Even with her low self esteem and her boring job I was wondering where the story was going to go Then I got a bit suspicious of this new almost perfect man Was I right to be Or is he really almost perfect Does she see him as a long term relationship or is she just showing off the fact she has a new boyfriend who is a doctor She doesn t have much in her life to show off about She has some pretty shallow and judgemental friends and family Her daughter also has fairly low self esteem and is already noticing her friends always go abroad for holidays and she hasn t even been on a plane She is starting to worry about being overweight I enjoyed the section set in Whitby which is one of my favourite places The author has hit the nail on the head with the characters and the mindset that everyone else is happier richer etc because of their glowing Instagram posts But no one knows what goes on in their actual lives 360 The saying goes comparison is the thief of joy and nothing is apt then this appropriately named book.

Ensuring she came first and as a single parent she really excelled There s a tense denouement and a HUGE secret reveal that you don t see coming despite the sinister hints I can happily recommend The Thief of Joy to readers who enjoy suspense novels with a psychological edge and I look forward to reading by Stacey Murray TheThiefOfJoy 360 Here is my review for The Thief Of Joy by Stacey MurrayI got into this story straight away and really enjoyed it It had good plotting and excellent writing whereas the descriptive text gave life to the story Roz was a single mum with a young daughter but she s always comparing herself to other people and their lives as she feels like she s missing out on life She wants a husband.

The book has rather a sad beginning Roz a young single mum with a 10 year old daughter is devastated to find her boyfriend of 3 months has died suddenly She falls into a new relationship with Mark a hospital anaesthetist who has lost his own wife and daughter in tragic circumstances. The thief of joyhouse book The group is moderated by Mark an anaesthetist at the local hospital whose wife and daughter were killed in a car accident and he gets in touch with Roz after she lets slip that her relationship was only a few months old and some of the other members question her right to be part of the group He quickly suggests they meet up and while he s not her type Roz is lonely and gets drawn into a relationship Mark drops small digs and humiliations into their conversations and continually lets Roz down She breaks off the relationship twice after her birthday and then when he s piled on the guilt on days when she s made other plans Alongside this he appears to be receiving hate mail from someone who works at the hospital It appears that Mark is married with children and that he flirts with the women at work which suggests that Mark s story to Roz and the group is a sham What could he be trying to achieve and will Roz just end up feeling lonelier and worthless or will this test her mettle and make her stronger Or is there something sinister going on Poor Roz is the black sheep in her family and in her friendship group in her own eyes at least Her daughter Chloe conceived while travelling after university and to a man who doesn t know he s got a daughter Roz has been in the same job for ten years because it fits in with her childcare needs but it s become a role she hates not least because her family and friends are hugely successful a point that is continually hammered home by her cold and dismissive mother From this perspective it s a little hard to read Roz character because she is colourlessly painted in every aspect of her life as this new relationship develops Additionally despite appearing to seethe at the way she s treated she doesn t confront anyone or open up to colleagues who might become friends if she allowed it The story is incredibly engaging and it s impossible to second guess the outcome at any point I ve raced through The Thief of Joy and the build up is compelling and the book is unputdownable It s an incredibly well thought out story with lots of twists that will keep you guessing throughout 360 As the title suggests the reader must discover whom or what is The Thief of Joy All is revealed towards the end of the story though not in this review. The thief of joy epub pdf This is a slow burn story with great emphasis placed on describing Roz s life Her hopes fears and expectations as well as her friendships and the relationships with her seemingly cold mother and star quality sister her mother s favourite To Roz her life may appear mundane but she has a job a home and a lovely daughter which would leave most people content The problem is she is surrounded by and reminded of those who are doing better in life sister Fiona has a posh new home and now Roz discovers her friend Kate is going to marry girlfriend Sam Gradually we can see Roz is not jealous but just feels that everyone is getting on with their lives whereas hers is stagnating There may appear parallels to Bridget Jones but their predicaments are very different this is no romantic comedy but is a psychological story with distinctive creepy edge Momentum gathers once Mark establishes himself within Roz s orbit At first he seems like a good fit as a potential long term partner a man willing to commit and used to children and a family life As time passes though he lets Roz and Chloe down regularly well he does have an important job and is often on call Then when they do meet up he is controlling and is reluctant to reveal his life his friends producing a real heart in the mouth moment The answers to the reader s questions then come thick and fast fit together nicely and make perfect sense The motivations are not quite what we think they are and the reader has only been exposed to a single perspective which is what makes the story work Roz is simply too self absorbed once she realises this her life looks very different for her it s like looking behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz She comes to understand there can be a different reality behind the fa ade Just because other people s lives look better doesn t mean that they don t have problems of their own I don t subscribe to the notion that there are men s books and women s books that is clearly nonsense but I think this is the sort of novel that will elicit different responses from different demographics I m sure there are many women who will identify with Roz s predicament and no doubt some older women will take her mother s non nonsense standpoint The reaction of men will differ I m sure depending on whether they have children 360 Roz is a 39 year old single mother of Chloe who is ten They live in Buxton where Roz works in a local hotel She s recently started dating Daniel who unexpectedly dies of an aneurysm.
