As I tend to be a one genre reader fiction not being that genre my love of this book caught me off guard Not Just My Mother s Daughter is a fast paced deeply heart felt unapologetically original and utterly engaging novella centering around Rose a neurotic young Jewish woman coping with the impending loss of her cancer ridden mother In the idiosyncratic way that only Rose Gardner can Not Just My Mothers Daughter seamlessly blends humor and grief contrasting stark hospitality rooms with desert based cults societies childhood abuse with signs from beyond There have been many times in my own life as a neurotic young Jewish person that I have ruminated perseverated and feared the loss of my parents so much so that it has affected the way I live my daily life at times However by page 130 I felt validated and empowered in knowing I am not alone When you build an entire empire with the goal of uplifting others it should be no surprise that the creator of The Society for Recovering Doormats was so successful in her mission This is the feel good feel sad feel heard feel seen book of 2024 Even so it is timeless and will be cherished by anyone of any age who has ever experienced loss or feared the worse In the words of Rose it has left me wondering for this author what next English A Beautiful Ride Not Just My Mother s Daughter will take you on a beautiful journey This is a MUST read that gives you that fly on the wall observation excitement As a reader we get privy into Rose s inner most thoughts and fears We meet first hand not only the intricate personality traits of her mother but the secondary characters could be a novel onto themselves This was such a fun read English
