site_link post a commentI enjoyed reading the continuation of Hannah s story The characters are real people grappling with issues that resonate divorce relationships between parents and children all woven in the tapestry of a new mom at age 55 I highly recommend both books of Hannah to anyone who is interested in real stories written exceedingly well Hannah and Her Daughters A Novel About Motherhood Fame and Starting Over Perfect for Book Clubs St Hannah 2 Hannah and Her Daughters is a satisfying expansion on Hannah and her adult daughter Natasha s relationship. For new mothers pregnancy and a new baby can mean a world shrinking fewer personal activities social connections and job prospects In the Book of Hannah Hannah experienced the opposite Hannah s worldview was narrow and once she valued control and predictability Hannah s strained relationships fell away during pregnancy and were replaced with abundant deeper connections A host of parasocial relationships fueled by the success of Hannah s mommy blog surrounded the mom to be in an exhilarating and terrifying glow. In Hannah and Her Daughters Gellerman explores how Grace s arrival presses Hannah into new realms of uncertainty and knowing herself Will she lose her home How can she work through her jealousy of sharing her daughters with strangers How does she show up for those she loves In this sequel we hear of Natasha s inner narrative and Gellerman conveys her struggle in a unique and empathetic voice. Hannah and Her Daughters conveys the heartfelt collaboration of a tiny community brought and held together by love and Grace Hannah and Her Daughters A Novel About Motherhood Fame and Starting Over Perfect for Book Clubs St Hannah 2 4. This was my first read from this author and it is the sequel to The Book of Hannah A Tragicomedy in Three Trimesters I did not read the first book before reading the sequel but it was easy to follow Hannah and Her Daughters and fill in what I missed in the first book I do plan on going back and reading the first book because I liked this one so much. The story follows Hannah who becomes pregnant at the age of 54 after years of infertility The story focuses on Hannah and how becoming a mother at the age of 55 changes the things in her life like friendships the relationships with her adopted daughter and husband and her life as a Social Media star I really liked the developed characters of Hannah and Natasha I felt they were complex and when I disagreed with a decision they were making or the way they were reacting to something I would stop and ask myself how I would feel in that situation The introduction of Hannah s notalagia paresthetica brought in the opportunity for some little jokes about nostalgia and a funny episode that happens later in the book with Hannah s capsaicin I liked how the diagnosis brought up the idea of nostalgia because I found myself comparing my pregnancies to Hannah s and having my own nostalgia about them It also reminded me why I would not want to have an infant at my current age of 49 I thought the dynamics between the family worked well and was definitely believable I sympathized with Natasha over her struggle of knowing her birth mom because I grew up not knowing or having a relationship with my biological father I just felt the book was very well written and I was invested in following Hannah and Natasha s story lines. I didn t give a full 5 stars because I felt the ending was a little abrupt It did give a resolution to what took place in the book but I would have liked to have seen a time jump around a year later to see how the business Natasha Hannah and Grace all continued to grow Hannah and Her Daughters A Novel About Motherhood Fame and Starting Over Perfect for Book Clubs St Hannah 2 At age 55 Hannah Murrow finally has what she always wanted He shocking late in life pregnancy ehich turned her into an unlikely social media star called St Hannah has culminated in the birth of baby Grace Facing an impending divorce from her Husband Hannah is struggling between her burgeoning stardom and her unwillingness to use the baby to promote her brand the brainchild of her adopted daughter Natasha Challenging Natasha could potentially jeopordize the delicate relationship the two have recently rebuilt. To make matters worse Natasha s Russian birth mother has come to the United States and wants to get to know her daugther the same daughter that Hannah and her husband adopted from a Russian orphanage thirty something years ago. To say that Hannah is feeling insecure would be an understatement It s tough enough to be a new mother in your twenties or thirties but in your mid fifties is unheard of I have to admit that I did not love this book but it was interesting Hannah and Her Daughters A Novel About Motherhood Fame and Starting Over Perfect for Book Clubs St Hannah 2
