The Last Sunset in the West pdfescape The issue here is the structure and the purpose of the book Part 1 focuses on the West Coast Community of Orca a family of the animals that live on Scotland s west coast After an introduction there is a chapter devoted to each of the ten recorded animals mixing what is known about them with facts on orca and the issues they face At first it makes slightly odd reading as a chapter supposedly about a specific animal says very little about that animal but as it progresses this is clearly as we know little about some of the individual orca and each one is cleverly linked to a specific topic about orca as a whole For example the West Coast orca called Floppy Fin is discussed and linked to the visible collapse of dorsal fins in other orca and then the prevalence for this in captive populations. PDF The Last Sunset in the western Part 1 is really accessible to those with no prior knowledge It shows a real understanding of orca and the way they live Who knew there were so many orca eco types that don t mingle or breed with one another However even in Part 1 there are elements of padding Not much but a little too much of the author s own experiences told in detail we don t need. EPub The Last Sunset in the west Part 2 is like a different book It s like a travelogue by somebody that I would want to read about It charts a day by day journal of the author s trip on the survey ship of the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust HWDT The odd thing here is that I know much of what she has to say as she told me in Part 1 and the introduction I wondered at one point if I had read this before somewhere before realising bits are near word for word from the 26 page introduction I know she saw 2 orca which leaves much of the remainder of Part 2 to be like an idealised view of Scotlands West Coast by an enthusiast that has spent little time there There is next to no discussion of orca. Last sunset in which country Was the focus of the book to tell us about the West Coast orca about the HWDT or both I imagine the latter but Part 2 really needs dropped and the relevant text intermixed with Part 1 Flesh out and stress the importance of the HWDT by mixing what they do in survey with the facts discussed in Part 1 At the moment it feels like a very strong short book with a very weak one tacked on the end 278
