Beneath the buried seapearl 5 My love for you knows no bounds Neither does the violence I will gladly wreak on your behalf Beneath the Buried Sea is the conclusion to The Fatebound duology Victoria s writing is so lyrically beautiful that I found myself pulled into this world I don t want to say too much and spoil it so this review will be shorter It picks up right where Beyond the Aching Door left off We get to see Raegan and Oberon working together to try and break the cycle they are in This one is full of mystery yearning action and romance Raegan is our 30 year old FMC who is full of rage and heartbreak She is brave and fierce and willing to take on fate to get the ending she yearns for I loved watching her character develop into believing in herself and knowing what she deserves Oberon is our morally grey fae king He loves to dive into the depths of darkness and shows it He is also full of sorrow and gives off such raw emotion that I was literally crying for him at times when you lose me because you will it ll be your destruction And yet the faerie king told her the ocean of his eyes fathomless here I am on my knees begging you to destroy me Raegan and Oberon are star crossed lovers They have gone through thousands of cycles that always end in death Yet their love for one another is so deep that it never dies The yearning for each other had me in a puddle There is no limit to what they would do for each other Do you not realize the King murmured breaking the silence his words as fragile as dew upon a spiderweb that I love you enough to lose you a thousand times over and still seek you like a moth to flame Beneath the Buried Sea has Urban fantasy Forced proximity Morally grey mmc fmc Star crossed lovers My wife Welsh myth Slow burn It s bittersweet to finish a series where you ve come to love the characters I will miss them Beneath the Buried Sea The Fatebound Duology 2 I ll return to finish this review I love the mushy love between Reagan and the King The RAGE The ending kinda ticked me off not gonna lie Hence the 4 instead of a 5 rating Beneath the Buried Sea The Fatebound Duology 2 I do so adore your rage little deathless thing Holy crap what an epic story 4. Book beneath the buried sea summary 75 rounded up because of the ending Mier s writing is once again beautiful lyrical and fit to make a perfect picture without being too flowery The story was complex than the first book not sure how that s even possible The fantastical creatures and places she s makes are truly astounding and original Grandfather clocks will forever live in my nightmares. Beneath the buried sea book summary I thoroughly enjoyed each character s story I ate up Raegan s rage lack of tact and just realness as a depressed 30 something year old fighting to heal the centuries old ache in her heart I loved watching her become comfortable with herself with her confidence in body and mind with her love for the King and her absolute defiance of fate Oberon was a perfect Unseelie King seemingly unfeeling on the outside but filled with so much rage ache and love that he s not afraid to show his emotions around Raegan even though he usually only shows them in little tells The secondary characters were great I wish I could have known a little about Maelona but she was a perfect grumpy cigarette aunt The unexpected bits of humor were much needed For example The King took a deep breath and she had the distinct feeling he was counting to ten The ending Wow Potential spoilers so stop reading this if you haven t read it It wasn t perfect but I wasn t left with a sour taste in my mouth like others I thought it was real Raegan was right the King needed time to process Raegan also wanted to spend time with her father We have no idea what that looks like but she left the coming back to Fate Fate waiting 15 years not Raegan There were a LOT of things unanswered but this already slow book would have been waaaay too long if everything was tied up with a bow Mier could have ended it without the epilogue but I felt like it was just enough information to tie it up Did I like it No Did it make sense to me Yes I don t know how else to describe it other than the ending was ok but not the worst Please know that this is my opinion and I by no means wish to make anyone else s opinion invalid Anyway I loved this duology I wish I could erase my memory and read it again I will recommend this to literally everyone Beneath the Buried Sea The Fatebound Duology 2 hot and spicy fae and prophecies and yearning and tears many many tears it s glorious Arthurian legend great pacing spicy and angsty heartbreakingly gorgeous writing soft only for her fabulous shadow daddy rageful older powerful FMC mossy forests aged castles dark and deep rivers mysterious creatures vibes second book in the series complete THIS is THE series Arthurian legend Powerful women full of rage A love that spans the centuries Deep and unending soul crushingly beautiful love OHHHHH how I love these books This one is a different vibe than the first a change in focus on the romance and the yearning and it is oh so gratifying Victorias writing is beautiful BTBS showcasing her strengths emotional deep sweet dark lush chilling and inexplicably gorgeous words in a gripping story These are the kind of books that grab you and make you so grateful to be alive in a time when THEY exist Raegan and Oberon have found each other and now have Raegans memories of her ruthless and tumultuous lives that have come before They struggle and fight clawing against fate and time to bring peace to both the Fae and the human realms Their adventure takes dark turns testing their will to continue their deaths feeling far too close the threat of their separation imminent IT IS GLORIOUS Raegan is one of my favorite FMCs of all time she s messy and flawed but ultimately a fierce some force of nature Oberon is THE shadow daddy powerful and lithe devoted and morally gray as they come. Book beneath the buried sea of thieves I LOVE THESE BOOKS HIGHLY recommend Beneath the Buried Sea The Fatebound Duology 2 Did a 2nd read and going to settle on 3 stars 10 12 Will write a full review tomorrow because I really want to sit and think on this 8 29 8 30Ok so first things first I am reading an ARC I binged it all in one sitting I definitely want to re read the series in full once again and I ll update my review at that time Book 1 was a 5 star read with absolutely no notes These are my thoughts on book 2. Beneath the buried seazen Enjoy my ramblings in all their chaotic glory Let s start with what didn t meet the mark for me Keep in mind I hold the author and this series in very very high regard and my criticism comes from a place of adoration and respect The train scene when we first start off I think death is a necessary component in good fantasy writing It keeps things realistic especially in a space of war But what the HELL It felt rushed in a way I can t really articulate Like a chapter being hastily finished and no time to savor its impact The main plotlines got a bit twisted and confusing I thought the introduction of the Arthurian conflict felt a bit out of a nowhere and if someone was not familiar with mythology and the lore I wonder if any of the new information would strike a chord For example the injustices done against the Morrigan Morgan Le Fey and Titiana would be impactful to someone with knowledge of what these names represent but otherwise they are just new people with no clear connection to what is happening with the Proctorate Fate and the Timekeeper until we learn about the sword Their losses don t make sense in the stories presently occurring without further explanation WHY is it important to know one of her past life s was a Seelie Queen WHY is the lore of the hill so important when understanding what she has lost WHY would the fall of someone named the Morrigan be so detrimental to fae and magic beings alike WHY did Raegan stab some mummified dude name Arthur who is that It felt like the author wanted to infuse the maximum amount of fantastical elements into this novel without consideration of how random it all seemed at times if you don t know their stories beforehand It does eventually come together but I am certain that you could have used original characters for the prophecies dreams etc and it made a stronger impact because it would be part of the BTAD BTBS world and not reliant on the historical fantasy world I know this will be controversial but I believe that the inner monologue of Raegan teetered on becoming annoying Imperfect characters are essential and allow a better arc but her constant need to dig her teeth through open wounds and bleed people out was exhausting For me I think that her having memories back and a reason to live would have promoted a stronger sense of defiance as opposed to guilt Stand up Break the ouroboros Grab what you want and steal it fate be damned I liked her most when she was laughing while devouring people with the river The pot of rage was simmering the whole book and yet it never quite boiled over To me I think there was a missed opportunity for a reactive villain moment I think characters toed the grey line but we never truly had an explosion of fury and vengeance Those words were mentioned often but I think the revenge was very demure all things considered I would have liked for Raegan or the King or even a side character like our Keepers to have shown bloodlust for no reason other than self righteous retribution You fuck with me I fuck with you 10x worse energy The ending made sense and I understood but then pissed me off entirely Again I am a huge fan of death and loss as themes within the context of fantasy war But to see a character CHOOSE to remain apart from their timeline and CHOOSE suffering for their partner made my jaw drop 15 years in fae time is certainly a tiny blip in the grand scheme of things but it felt so incredibly cruel and like all of Raegans progress with self saboteur just disappeared In no universe would I have expected her to make a widow out of her mate ON PURPOSE I was not impressed and so pissed off that the reuniting made me disgusted rather than pleased Also context perhaps More closure What happened to the Proctorate How was it dismantled Are there any rogue anti magic radicals still plaguing various portals and magic sites Does the Seelie nation rise NOW On to the good the great the excellency The lyricism of Victorias writing style is captivating and leaves you with a book hangover because in truth I have not found something quite comparable There is a mastery here in weaving emotions with words and making you feel like you ve been deposited inside the story as opposed to being on the outskirts I felt these characters in my bones and heard the wind through my hair while riding on back of a kelpie It is an honor to be inside this world and I was not eager to leave Increased tea cameos I love a good comfy cozy cup of tea and enjoyed the soft element it added into tense moments The romance and spice was oh so melodramatic in the best way It was mushy gushy pillow soft and melted chocolate gooey We have evolved from yearning to see you again into full blown partners in every life vibes The Oberon POV chapter was incredible Truly the best writing the best encapsulation of loss and the most moving bit of the book for me The author stays true to their style of penmanship but somehow makes it 100% unique to Oberon There is a distinct difference in the way Raegans inner monologue works and The King It is a chapter dripping in sorrow and shadows it hooks its claws into you and rips what s left of your heart straight out of your body I was aching during this book Whatever possessed the author during the writing of this epilogue deserves a standing ovation True art All in all I can say with complete certainty that I recommend this series with my full chest It has everything you could ever desire in a story and is completely unique It is so so so evident that the author put their entire soul into this series it leaks through the pages This is a project of love of passion of true stardom I will be following Victorias work into the other worlds Beneath
