In 1837 Hannibal Travis is coming to terms with some difficult news After drinking heavily Hannibal joins a poker game where after being accused of cheating he accidentally kills a man He then decides to leave Independence Missouri and his family to join a wagon train going to Texas By 1867 the Travis family comprises Michael Travis previously a man with little ambition or drive and a former worker in a grist mill his wife Florence his brother Benjamin and Ben s wife Sarah and Abbey their younger sister We discover that Florence Travis has feelings for Oliver Miller a married man and her husband s boss Benjamin s wife Sarah a Cherokee Indian is now pregnant with their first child He and Sarah no longer feel welcome in their Missouri town On the day their mother dies and is buried Michael informs his family that for the past year he has been in touch with their father Hannibal who left them when they were small Now that their mother has died Michael has changed from being a man with little backbone into a strong decisive character Is this due to the death of his mother or is there another reason Michael informs the family that their father had traveled to Texas in 1837 and had created a ranching empire He is determined to know why his father left them and demands to be included in Hannibal s great wealth Ben and Sarah are also happy to go with Michael as they no longer feel that Independence Missouri is the right place to bring up their baby Abbey also agrees to go with them even though she has never met her father Michael s wife Florence however is mortified by her husband s decision but reluctantly discovers that she has no choice other than to go with them to Texas In Texas things are not quite what they seem Hannibal is now a ruthless rancher and businessman He is nothing like the person who left Missouri in 1837 He has a huge ranch called The Double T and he has a new family But the past is something that keeps catching up with him As secrets mysteries and adventures unfold we discover that some people are simply not what they seem Will Michael Florence Benjamin Sarah and Abbey survive the wagon train to Texas and if so what will they find at The Double T Ranch The Texas Dream From Whence We Came A Western Adventure A Hannibal Travis Family Saga Book 1
