read as a standalone A fun historical mystery with a female lead detective Sarah Payne and a cast of other intriguing characters Sarah is called in to help solve a mystery for one of the most well known and powerful industrialists of his time Charles Kendall He wants someone who is discreet and trustworthy but will also blend in during the investigation Although this investigation had some odd agreements Sarah is settling into her new undercover role at his company Trying to focus on this investigation Sarah is often getting pulled in other directions with Mr Kendall s daughter wanting to be friends and often seems to be up to no good and someone from her past is asking for a big favor With others aware of who she really is she often is also getting fed information about others and Sarah must stay true to her work to get to the bottom of things for Mr Kendall I really enjoyed all the various other characters that were brought into the storyline and this historical mystery was a
