Jane Lovering is a great favourite of mine so I was excited to get the opportunity to read her latest book One of Kind which was published by Boldwood Books on Thursday 13th June Thank you to Rachel at Rachel s Random Resources for the invitation to take part in the book tour and to the publisher for a digital review copy through Netgalley. Transfer book from one kindle to another Now if you know anything about red squirrels you will know that they are relatively rare and only to be found in small areas of the UK which doesn t include Yorkshire So the first mystery is how did this little chap come to be on a Yorkshire moor and in a dead man s pocket Ivo wants to investigate to find out who the man is and where he s from so naturally they decide to try find out first where the squirrel is from by getting a sample of its DNA assessed This led the pair to the Isle of Wight and what seemed to be a jolly trip soon turned into a rather dangerous mission far from home. One of a kind book Jane Lovering gives an interesting insight into the life of an animal welfare worker I confess I had envisaged the work mostly to be about rescuing wounding or neglected animals.

Not grovelling shovelling I enjoyed the romance between Cress and Ivo although was frustrated with him at times that he couldn t see that she wanted to be than friends I could understand why Cress didn t want to say anything in case that risked their friendship They were very different in many ways not least their finances Cress was rather insecure and didn t think that vibrant Ivo could ever see her in a romantic light and I think that many people will identify with her lack of confidence It was interesting to find that Ivo has ADHD which explained his personality and quirky traits I m not neurodivergent myself so I felt this gave a good insight into what life can be like for neurodivergent people. One of our kind book Cress is a wildlife rescuer as opposed to her fancy friend crush Ivo who comes from a posh background Though he can be overbearing and annoying at times due to his scatterbrain she has gotten used to his quirks and often wonders how it would feel to be with him romantically However being risk averse as she is she never expresses her true feelings to him But when Ivo becomes fixated on the idea that a red squirrel found inside the pocket of a dead man is than it seems and wants to investigate the case after the police drops it Cress has no choice but to follow him She wants to make sure he stays out of trouble and to ensure the safe return of the squirrel to its home One clue leads to another which eventually leads to a small trip to the Isle of Wight and Ivo might just have been right There is to the story of the squirrel and the dead man than it seemed at first. One of a Kind paranormal Cress is a humble and kind woman who worked a job she loves despite the low wages Though she is a good character overall sometimes I got annoyed with her reasoning Especially in the second meeting with Sally That scene clearly suggested that Sally was up to no good and that she was discussing Cress and Ivo with someone else And she blindly walked into Sally s trap without even suspecting anything to be out of place given her usual overthinking and cautiousness. One of kind crossword clue Ivo felt like a typical ENFP person given his many talents and ADHD I loved him throughout the book the way he explains himself to Cress his hyper focus instincts the way his brain works and his feelings He tried his best to make Cress understand and I love that she accepted him as he is. One of a kind kitchen cabinet handles Except this squirrel has been found in the pocket of a dead man Cressida realises that the squirrel nicknamed Fred has been hand reared The police think that the man s death was an accident but Ivo wants it to be a bigger mystery that needs unpicking Cressida would like to get Fred back to his home and an excuse to spend time with Ivo is always welcome So they embark on an adventure which turns out to be far eventful than either of them or Fred presumably anticipated. Epub on kindle fire The portrayal of wildlife volunteering and working makes us respect these people and the animals a lot 9781835332160 One of a Kind by Jane Lovering is a unique and interesting romantic mystery romystery is that a thing The main characters Cressida and Ivo set off to solve a murder all whilst trying to help animals I love that the characters were so relatable As readers we are privy to Cress s insecurities and struggles we all have them with her career love life and feelings for Ivo Ivo is neurodivergent and this book really describes his personality and quirky traits quite well I totally connected with Ivo and am happy to see neurodiversity represented This novel is definitely good for neurotypical people to get an insight into what it can be like for neurodivergent people and vice versa AND there s a murder to solve and squirrels to save along the way Thank you it still had what I think of as Jane Lovering s trademarks quirky characters cute animals warm humour and a gently unfolding romance Cressida known as Cress works at an animal rescue centre and has been secretly in love with journalist Ivo since they met at university He seems completely oblivious to this attraction and she is reluctantly content to settle for friendship When he calls her early one morning to come and rescue a red squirrel he has found in a dead man s pocket giving them lots of cuddles and tlc and then either finding them a lovely new home or seeing them back into the wild All very rewarding Now I know a lot about how there s a lot of paperwork it s a constant struggle to raise funds and that there s a lot of shovelling No this novel had a different feel from the author s previous novels which perhaps focus on the main female character s personal situations and search for love However I still enjoyed this funny and warm story of squirrels mystery and love And that s not a sentence you see very often 9781835332160 Cressida Tarbet was trying to sleep off a nasty cold when her phone rang Her best friend Ivo needed wildlife rescuer Cress at a possible crime scene on the Yorkshire moors The victim had something unusual in his pocket that Cressida would undoubtedly be interested in The police seemed to think it was an accidental death but Ivo wasn t convinced Cressida couldn t resist Ivo s pleading despite the years they d been the best of friends and her secret but nonetheless confusing and conflicting feelings she harboured for him she was curious to know what had prompted Ivo to call her She couldn t have been surprised. One of a kind book Ivo dreamed of being a successful investigative journalist and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for a story Cressida wasn t so sure but first and foremost she was here in her role as animal rescuer Prepared to initiate emergency measures should it panic I touched it very gently with the tip of my finger A head emerged and a beady eye rolled upward then in a flash of auburn the little creature had fled into my nicely enclosed dark and safe looking transport box and I closed the door behind it with relief Getting the cute little rescue back where he belongs takes Cressida and Ivo down south also to the Isle of Wight and since they decided to try and investigate what Ivo is certain is nefarious goings on into danger They have no idea what they re getting themselves involved in. One of our kind book One of a Kind was an enjoyable read part mystery part desire for romance with two very likeable characters Cressida and Ivo have completely different lifestyles and personalities she supplementing her small income by taking in lodgers he living in the opulent gatehouse of the family estate Cressida has had lots of time to get used to Ivo s almost extreme excitable flitting from one subject or idea to another in the blink of an eye and I appreciated the author explaining his thought processes from his own perspective I enjoyed the insight into animal rescue too 9781835332160 Be prepared for a slowish start well apart from the fact that it starts with the discovery of a dead man identity unknown on the Yorkshire moors Oh yes and he just happens to have a very friendly red squirrel in his pocket. One of a kind book So Cress wildlife rescuer is the obvious person to call she s been a friend of on the spot reporter Ivo since their university days although she really wishes well maybe that they could be something rather Their lives are very different he lives in luxury in the gatehouse of the family pile Cress keeps head above water with the help of a couple of lodgers and when he suggests she moves in for a while until they sort out what to do with the squirrel working name Fred it s a bit of a no brainer. Transfer book from one kindle to another And what then follows for a while in the author s inimitable style is the progress of their relationship with plenty of the sparkling dialogue she does so very well and a lot of inner turmoil from love lorn Cress And then there s Ivo a particularly flamboyant dresser totally exhausting to be around never stops moving or talking changes the subject mid sentence acts on impulse and entirely loveable in his own quirky and neuro diverse way. One of our kind book But that s not all the story together they decide to conduct their own investigation into what s begun to look like a murder rather than an unexplained death and that takes them on a road trip to the Isle of Wight both to take Fred home and to dig a little deeper And if the early part of the book was slower moving and no complaints from me I loved it the pace certainly picks up dramatically and the whole book moves into edge of the seat thriller territory albeit with plenty of laughs along the way and some distinct progress on the romantic front. Paranormal kindle This book is very very different with everything I enjoy about the author s writing but with plenty of added extras The events that unfold on the IoW are written quite wonderfully making it a real page turner and I really loved Cress distinctive voice and wry humour when faced with well with the possibility of it being the end of everything really And the developing relationship between her and Ivo was to quote the publishers utterly beautiful amid all their challenges and baggage and issues and differences they re a couple who are really meant to be together As always a total delight 9781835332160 When a dead body is discovered on Yorkshire moors Cressida and Ivo band together to try and solve the mystery Friends since uni even though their personalities and upbringing couldn t be different Cress and Ivo embark on a journey that is equally about crime solving as it is about getting to know each other better. One of a kind book Having never read a book by Jane Lovering before I didn t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by a great mixture of cozy mystery and romance this book provided I loved the two main characters who felt fleshed out and real and I especially loved the ADHD rep the book offered The pacing did lag a bit towards the middle and I did want a deeper dive into Ivo s feelings towards Cress as they seemingly came from nowhere at one point But ultimately I loved the message of loving someone not despite but because of their flaws So if you re a fan of atmospheric books that blend mystery and romance and are filled with humor this might be perfect for you.
