Pedro the pirate book review
I love books that any child can have fun reading while also adding to their emotional and social toolbox This book is about a little boy in foster care It gave me the opportunity to explain to my daughter what that means and discuss how Pedro felt We discussed how it s great to do things on your own But it s also wonderful to have a crew that you can count on The pirate jargon was fun and the illustrations were excellent We loved this book Pedro the Pirate Learning to Trust a New Crew Pedro the Pirate sails alone He can do everything himself and doesn t need a crew to help him and they definitely don t need to touch his stuff Pedro is a foster kid who has recently joined a home with other kids He is uncomfortable and doesn t want to make friends with anyone.

Ensuring that this kid s book stays accessible for the readers who probably need it the most The amount of care taken in this book to center Pedro and his coping mechanisms while also gently showing how the people around him engage in best practices to draw him out makes this an invaluable addition to the library of anyone with any connection to fostering. Kindle pedro the pirate book This sensitivity comes as no surprise given that Ms O Neal is a foster mom who was once in care herself It s clear that her experiences on both sides of the system have given her excellent perspectives on what s truly important for everyone involved Frankly.

Pedro the talking parrot This review originally appeared at Pirates and Privateers Pedro the Pirate Learning to Trust a New Crew This book is adorable funny and important Pedro the Pirate does not want help and does not want to trust anyone except the dog he names Parrot But the people around him continue to offer kindness Finally when Pedro is faced with losing the treasure or taking on a crew he chooses to let the other children join him in his quest They victory leads to celebration and Pedro experiences the joy of supportive friends and family Through the front and back matter the reader parent understands that the story is centering Pedro s experience as a foster child I appreciate that because we need books about that experience especially books as warm and enjoyable as this one But it s also great that the book is written so that Pedro s reluctance to open up build relationships and participate with the group could apply to children in many situations Kids will relate to it not only if they re joining a new family but also if they re attending a new school moving to a new area or participating in a new activity. Pedro's pirate treasure The story doesn t explain that Pedro lives in a foster home But you can still understand that he is wary of the other kids and adults As a pirate he watches for scallywags as well as treasure When he spies a treasure he tries to grab it but it is too heavy Can he trust the other kids to join his crew and confiscate the treasure When kids have been put into a situation like foster care it is hard for them to trust other kids and grownups Their world has been shattered They are living in a new home with new people and new rules It s hard to want to be friends or get comfortable because all they want to do is go back home But that isn t always the safest place for a kid. Ebook pedro the pirate book The author shares her personal story of foster care in a note at the end of the book She offers a metaphor that days with sunlight are good days while days that are gloomy with giant waves can rock the boat That s how the day started for Pedro He was angry and didn t want to play with or talk to anyone But with a bit of courage and kindness and some teamwork Pedro found that he had a whole crew ready to support him.
