Publicity stunt ideas Despite their on screen chemistry co stars Graham Crowley and Christina Malloy share no love off screen When rumors surface in the entertainment media suggesting they re romantically involved their managers seize the opportunity to capitalize on the speculation offering incentives to enhance their supposed fake relationship Graham and Christina reluctantly comply but unexpectedly their pretend romance evolves into genuine affection Yet in the world of Hollywood where illusions reign supreme can their true feelings survive the scrutiny of the public eye While make believe is the norm sometimes reality defies expectations leaving us to question what s genuine and what s just for show Publicity StuntI m giving this a solid 3 stars I thought this would be a nice and light rom com It has all the good tropes with enemies to lovers and fake dating that are both up my alley These tropes drew me to this in the first place but while it was a great read it wasn t one that had everything The thing is my first impression of Christina was not good I felt for Graham the mmc and my opinion aligned with his with his preconceived ideas about her She was a diva she was spoiled and was a bit of a snob Not to mention she was that movie star who basically eats nothing and practically starves herself I was totally thinking that this was not healthy and that there are other ways to still be healthy eating regular meals I wanted to roll my eyes at her by I tried not to judge because I try to give characters times to develop and grow Learning the why of the matter later And I was right to not be too quick to judge We see why Christina eat as she does and the way it affected her eating habits While I saw how my first impression was wrong I felt like we didn t get to see a ton of her backstory to soak up the emotions As for Graham I was glad to see layers to him than meets the eye as Christina also had a bad first impression of him But again there wasn t as much depth to him as I wanted there to be Sure I definitely thought he was hot as a movie star but even that was not really shown His hotness was mostly told and I wasn t totally falling for his good looks It also didn t help that the pacing was pretty fast As I was reading through this I wasn t feeling like there wasn t any depth with the story itself Things move at such a quick pace that I felt like I hardly got to settle with a scene It was like with a snap of my fingers Graham and Christina were somewhere else Even them establishing their fake dating scheme felt incomplete It was like they didn t iron out all the details so they wouldn t have problems later However their play at pretend didn t seem to last long anyway The enemies part didn t seem to last long as the pretend didn t either Due to the pacing it was like we only got to see a brief glimpse of Graham and Christina s animosity Most of it was off page recounting times past when they hated each other as costars The part that I love with the enemies to lovers trope for me is the underlying tension The kind that simmers between two characters when it looks like they hate each other but the tension is saying there is also attraction There wasn t any of this here since the pace of their relationship goes by quickly The fast pacing even made this feel like insta love and I don t mean insta lust which in most cases I can accept Graham and Christian seem to go from reluctant friends to saying I love you too fast There is some uncertainty about the realness of it all but the pretend part was over quickly as well I prefer a slow burn in most cases for this reason And I wasn t a fan of how fast their relationship developed even if I am a romantic at heart Overall this book had a nice rom com that was an easy read that a reader can kick back with and be entertained by I had this feeling but I could see a lot of problems with it too Christina and Graham s love story was sweet and had all the heart with it but it didn t have all the grounded depth as a big screen film Bernadette Marie I was surprised that Bernadette Marie is a bestselling author because this book is quite problematic It seemed very juvenile the writing was too simple and the story has many problems First of all the two characters go from hating each other for VERY superficial reasons to loving each other in a matter of basically weeks Also the main female character has an eating disorder that the guy cures by constantly pointing to her face how little she is This is such a damaging portrait of a serious issue Bernadette Marie
