Kaine's Regret By D.M. Pruden
Kaine's regrets only
There is a lot happening in this book The resistance forces are being pushed back due to the Confederation s uncovering of alien technology Kaine s father in law is discovered and with that comes the discovery of additional alien technology Friends are lost and friends are rediscovered Which group are the Glenatat helping if any The story builds to a discovery that puts the Galaxy in another precarious position We are left with a cliffhanger While I m not a big fan of cliffhangers this is an epic story which continues to build Hopefully some of the threads of the story will get tied up in the next book I gave the book 5 stars as I like the characters and their development and the story continues to build and does not seem stale I enjoyed the book. Kaine's Regret book M Pruden As he encounters the void within and without Kaine is forced to reckon with the ghosts of his pastEdge of your seat Aside from interstellar conflict there is a lot of inner turmoil as well For one the powerful human AI hybrid Cora is afraid that she s losing her humanity becoming Glenatat each day What is she even Was there some sort of rogue alien presence lurking behind the scenes What if she was some kind of sleeper technology put in place by the Glenatat Both the engineer and the reader keep wondering what is really going on and the implications of what could be Then to consider the differences compared to the version of Cora that the Confederacy have and the full extents of that Thrilling And to some extent heartbreaking. PDF Kaine's regretted Meanwhile Kaine had to face his own struggles witnessing technological advancements tip the scales of the conflict while bringing to light new aspects he had not even dared to think of Faced with ever turbulent odds yearning for answers about the fate of those dear to him burdened by the internal conflict with guilt over decisions made during critical moments he has than enough on his plate yet he keeps trying to safeguard humanity against external threats as well as internal while coming to terms with the scope of sacrifices those close to him are willing and prepared to make At least he doesn t have to face everything alone as in addition to Cora he has a beacon of stability in steadfast friend Yegor Pavlovich and also dear Emma by his side The role of Aubrey Martini once an adversary is also beautifully realized But are the echoes from his past louder than their trust and support And how easy is it to lose one s grip on someone or even reality when things in VR become all too real The scope of this work is rather epic Pruden manages to create something even intriguing and haunting with this complex addition to the Shattered Empire series Both interstellar conflict and inner turmoil high tech and human depth there is much to engage the reader and excite imagination inspire ponderings on a variety of topics from guilt and morality to what it means to be human in the face of the incomprehensible to name a few not to even mention all the techn olog ical and dimensional aspects The story character arcs and rich thematic landscape will delight any old or new admirer of Pruden s work and the questions that arise from reading these pages serve to inspire much research and discussion as any good old sci fi should How can you make anyone understand the implications of our connection to the Glenatat and the danger it may represent when we can t even properly begin to conceive what they are Our ability to see a limited range of the electromagnetic spectrum only hinted at how ill prepared humans were to perceive the entirety of the universe When there are creatures made of dark matter invisible to human eyes and instrumentation and with the ability to access dimensions inconceivable to primitive humans where does one even try to begin As an exploration of human resilience identity and morality amidst cosmic conflicts and technological advancements the book indeed delivers quite a fascinating buffet to enjoy preferably with good time to really think about it too The book itself may not be very long but it is packed with so much stuff that one might dwell on it for long after I know I keep returning to some scenes and concepts presented and probably will for a good while yet Relief should flood the reader knowing that this is not the end of the road and I for one am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series Some friendly advice son from Pavlovich also welcome to many readers Quit taking on guilt for things that are beyond your control There s also a convenient brief series summary in the beginning for those who are only at this point joining the journey or as a refresher for those who have been away for a while Building on what has happened before this volume will be all the powerful when you recognize some of the old faces and understand the weight on Kaine s shoulders among others The story character arcs and rich thematic landscape will delight any old or new admirer of Pruden s work and the questions that arise from reading these pages serve to inspire much research and discussion as any good old sci fi should of what is possible and what permissible what is the right thing to do and what right does anyone have to do what Do we even truly comprehend what or who we are not to speak of others How can we understand something so much beyond ourselves when we barely even understand ourselves D.
