Book my colors and images The rejection the longing the anger and hope the need for belonging and understanding all of that and is my own So as a victim of complex trauma of abandonment of mental illness and so much emotionally this is my story in so many ways And in many ways it isn t In many ways my immigrant Honduran wife and my oldest daughter born in Honduras will be able to relate to Olivia in ways that I can t I told this story for them and for all of the Latinos who have provided a home to me in ways I never had growing up I told this story because it matters because racism is something that happens no matter where you re from or how light or dark your skin is And I hope that you dear reader will tell this story to your friends and family Because it does matter Because hate and division have been permitted to last for far too long in our society And worse because politicians the world over and people of influence with audiences far wider than my own continue to promote hate and division for their personal gain and fame.
