Setting one i love that for you girl arsonist icon i loved her so much she resonated with me i think than the other characters she wanted to separate herself from her parents and build her own life and reputation her situationship with zoialynne was heartbreaking and i don t think i ll forgive the author for that her arc and conflict was intriguing and i loved reading her chapters you re also rather cocky anyone told you that i m afraid s ren ate with that one i love reading his chapters as well his regrets and internal struggles were apologies to use this term again compelling all of the characters conflicts were i m obsessed with s ren s dynamic with xavier him sneaking behind his father s back to investigate was iconic. Kingdom of sardinia some other notes i had iskra and s ren best otp there is example a and jumping into moving carriages is a regular occurance for you still not over that are you my lockaura heart brutally sobbingthey were two beating hearts that danced around danger.

Which is not necessarily bad but in this case it made for an uncomfortable read at best It had no rhythm Massive paragraphs where the characters went into one string of consciousness after another Changing their minds on the same things over and over and glancing over what was actually happening They were fighting and then suddenly they were reflecting about love and the fight was over and I couldn t even really comprehend what had happened Long descriptions that got mixed up with neverending internal monologues pulled you away from the narrative and what was actually happening in the scene The murder mystery part actually loses its importance over how much internal conflict the characters have and they don t even explain any of it It s cryptic from page one and I was waiting for things to fall into place and make sense but they never did Also.

Kingdom of cards book 1 I had really high hopes for this book but it unfortunately wasn t as good as I thought it would be Not bad for an indie author debut but also nothing stellar I m not sure that I would read this again The concept was great however the execution was less than To me in my own personal opinion this felt like a Stalking Jack the Ripper ripoff mixed with trope upon trope to keep the booktok addicts satiated This book was so clearly written to be marketable and of course there s nothing inherently wrong with that However it felt like the tropes characters and dynamics were shoved down our throats for the sake of marketability and some flashy lines to post on social media in hopes of going viral which detracted from the overall value of the book You could see the plot twist around a certain spoiler character s identity coming from the beginning and Lock was just your stereotypical brooding book boyfriend who s only major purpose seemed to be dropping a few swoon worthy lines The mystery wasn t terrible by any means but it was certainly predictable As for the actual writing it needed work Maybe another round of editing There were many repeated words odd sentence structure and phrasing and big chunky paragraphs that just interrupted the flow of the story I don t really know much about the author but I could maybe guess that she is younger and that these flaws will improve with experience Technical gripes aside there were just parts of this book that were slow boring and confusing That combined with elements included purely for the sake of marketability are what makes this a two star read for me personally It wasn t super well written but I loved the premise Paperback i want to thank the author for giving me an opportunity to be an ARC reader for kingdom of cards overall this book was everything a mystery girl could want magic found family murder historical fiction it was brilliant the writing style flowed so well and was descriptive without being too confusing to follow the setting was immersive it felt as if i was there experiencing it along with the beloved characters the effort and attention to details was impressive however there were some parts i got confused on but i feel as if that s regular for some mystery books after some reflecting on the story and refreshing my mind i understood it i fell in love with all of the characters they re all so beautifully written each had their own motives to play into the plot but ended up working together this formed an unexpected found family dynamic death fueled her aura is a queen she s intelligent and intuitive yet she has her own secrets she s ambitious and driven but cares deeply for those around her her alter ego is a prominent part of her character and her internal conflict is so compelling nothing could convince me that i m not taken wholly and devastatingly by you lock is the newest addition to the book boyfriend list he s so thomas cresswell and tewksbury coded if they were russian with a cursed heart his banter is top tier and i want to kick his parents his reaction to aura s alter ego is realistic and it broke my heart let my guy have a break in the sequel please like aura his internal conflict makes his character seem truly real iskra storenn was thinking about setting a fire specifically knowing they d be safe within each other s arms. Kind kingdom the game together they were infinite i love the magic system and the world building i love the concept of the optical emotive auditory and perceptive magic the way i screamed when the title showed uponce again thank you to the author for the ARC and allowing me to claim my spot as a KoC stan before its published 4. Epub kingdom of card game 5 Paperback i tried to like it i really did Paperback This was truly a disappointing and deeply confusing read for me You could see the basis of a very good story but the way the book was constructed simply didn t work It sounded very much like a debut novel honourable mention to the instant love that Soren feels for Xavier for no apparent reason other than him being beautiful I kept waiting for Soren to reveal something that had happened prior to this and caused him to have such faith allegiance to this boy but nope A poor attempt at found family and a great deal of self loathing combined with whining about their past 24 7 made so that I didn t really connect with any of the characters The magic system was very poorly explained I feel like it must ve been really clear to the author so she didn t really feel the need to paint a clear picture of how magic works in this world or of its societal norms I had great expectations for this book and the premises are really good the whole Victorian scene with magic and secret society made this a must read when I first found it on IG but I feel like this needed to be revised a couple times especially because of the amount of word repetition especially names Not sure if I will be reading the sequel just because I m so done with these characters already Paperback I have a complicated relationship with less than glowing reviews when it s a book that I did enjoy but here we go. Kindle kingdom of cards game It takes enormous talent to be an author It takes patience diligence and commitment to even finish writing a novel let alone get it published so I understand the draw that self publishing has on young authors and I respect that Emmaline s ideas drew me in and characters encouraged me to stay and compulsively read when I had time but the execution fell short. Kingdom of sardinia g writing well bread instead of well bred when refering to social standing sever written as severe etc There were also so many commas in places that didn t need commas and no commas where there should have been The magic wasn t explained and even though I m a prolific fantasy reader I found myself unable to follow or comprehend exactly how or why it functioned The scenes jumped and skipped which sometimes made it feel like the reader was missing out on crucial information Unfortunately I felt like I was reading the first draft instead of the final product. Kingdom of sardinia Now that all of that negativity is out of the way let s get to what I did like I m a big fan of historical fantasy set in Victorian times it just doesn t seem to get old for me Throw in a charming lord with a curse a poison scientist apprenticing at a cadaver lab and a very wholesome friends to lovers situation Sold Lock and Aura s POVs were fun to read and very entertaining if a little overdone at points but I can t lie I didn t particularly care for Iskra or S ren at all The mystery was intriguing and the stakes kept the story from lagging which was nice considering it isn t a particularly short novel. Book kingdom of card game All in all HIS LINES THE THINGS HE SAYS TO AURA IM SICK IM THERES LITERALLY NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THIS MAN EXCEPT FOR HOT HANDSOME BEST BOOK BOYFRIEND EVER Aura ICON LEGEND QUEEN I WANT TO BE HER because she s her and she gets lock so HER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT EVERYTHING ABOUT HER JUST AND HER PLOT TWIST AT THE END I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING AT ALLLL IM OBSESSED WITH HER ACTUALLY SHES SUCH A GIRLBOSSIskra GIRLBOSS 2 I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND SHES SO FUNNY LIKE HER HUMOR IS TOP TIER AND I WANT TO BE HER TOO AND HER STORY LINE BREAKS ME BUT I LOVE HER AND JUST WANT HER TO GET HER HAPPY ENDING emmaline leigh you better make her and s ren and aura and lock happy in book 2 AND JUST HER. Kind kingdom the game I want to protect Aura Lock S ren and Iskra with my life and if any harm ever comes to any of them I will riot One thing that I love about this book is that it has mystery done well and constantly left me guessing There is romance in the way that it makes you kick and giggle excitedly and not in an overwhelming way Be warned THIS BOOK WILL BRING OUT ALL OF THE EMOTIONS Laughs giggles and tears ALL OF IT I love it If I could rate this book out of stars I would 100000000 10 for me It s all just a game Paperback i ve been following the author s updates for a while on instagram and i honestly can t wait to get my hands on this Paperback ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE OF A BOOK.
