The Peppercorn Tree and other Australian Poems By John D. Walker
When I still can I highly recommend this book and I m glad that memories that are no longer there can still be enjoyed The Peppercorn Tree and other Australian Poems This very readable collection of poetry is illustrated with various works of art from many sources that fit the poems well The poems themselves rhyme with irregular meter They tell stories or make political points There is the poem called The Fisherman which tells a tale of the fish that got away or rather got eaten by something else I especially liked The Poets Club and the unfriendly poetess Jean In The Words of Poetry he describes his view of poetry as simple words that create pictures of memories of the past or thoughts of the future which indeed his poems achieve The Peppercorn Tree and other Australian Poems This is a poetry book full of beautiful sketches and poetry As an American reading about the sights and experiences of an Australian I must admit some of the imagery shared required a quick Google search to make sure I had the correct meaning My favorite poems are about poetry The Poetry Club and The Words of Poetry are delightful The history of the island countries discovery by Captain Cook gives a point of view on how the country came to be.
#heading[2]Poems from a lost memoryThese poems written long ago by someone who now has dementia still ring true of our society today even though they were written in and for Australia The political poems can be applied to what is happening in the US today and are very pertinent The poems about aging are poignant and made me think of what should be appreciated fully now which I had basic knowledge about however here in this poem it becomes clear how wealth and resources are not shared All in all a eye opening journey into the land down under The Peppercorn Tree and other Australian Poems
