This page turning thriller is interwoven with a general fiction storyline giving the main characters depth The depth the poachers would go to was intense I devoured the book in two days because I had trouble putting it down This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone The Valley Beyond A Jeff Koehler Mystery The Jeff Koehler Mystery Thriller Series Book 3 You know when you find a series you enjoy but it takes the author forever to release the next book I m so glad that hasn t happened with this series While I think it s totally possible to read this as a standalone story the other books in the series help set the stage and introduce you to a lot of the characters what drives their choices That being said I think this is my favorite book in the series I really like the Alaska setting It felt really authentic it s always nice when it feels like an author did extensive research to make the parts of the story that contain an actual place feel realistic I ve never been to Alaska but it feels like I have now The devastating effects of COVID on a population not equipped to fight it was realistic too Sad but realistic.
