Keeping you on the edge of your seat until the shocking climax Fans of psychological thrillers with a strong sense of suspense should check it out The Heaven Spot Character driven stories are among my favorite to read Getting inside their heads Being shown their past and the actions that brought them to the present And being shown why they did what they did Being compelled to like or not like them To care about them All of that makes for a story I can immerse myself in Walk in their shoes for a few hours And hope for a happy ending Or at least some answers to my questions. Book the heaven spot the heavens I found myself intrigued by the mystery and trying to decipher the clues Not all is as it seems but I was unsure how the story would end I had inklings near the end of who was really behind the murder but I had nothing concrete to put my finger on Detective Martinez is sure it is Maggie but is it her There is a lot she cannot account for due to a blackout There were times I felt like he was being a bully but I suppose that is how they work to get to the bottom of a crime It doesn t help that Maggie inserts herself into the investigation and potentially into harm s way. Book the heaven spot review I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down even when I was falling asleep We give this book 5 paws up The Heaven Spot I received an AD PR copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review The Heaven Spot is a captivating modern day mystery where a mother Maggie is trying to come to terms with the loss of her daughter Lilly Lily was murdered and Maggie wants to discover and learn all about the woman her daughter was and find her killer Estranged for years Maggie has her own demons an opioid addict she feels she may in part be to blame for what happened to her daughter The heartache Maggie feels is so raw and really pulls at your heartstrings as she tries to unravel and piece together what happened to Lilly and is so sad that she s only just getting to know her daughter as a result of her murder This book makes you look at and think about choices we make relationships we have and destroy family and Maggie was an unreliable character which added so much to the layers of the story as they unfolded and I couldn t help but route for this heartbroken lost lady The author did such a good job navigating the complexities of the mother and daughter relationship which was sadly shattered by addiction in a very sensitive way The Heaven Spot When we meet Maggie Roberts she is in the process of packing up and closing her bookshop for good The market was fiercely competitive and margins were small but Maggie knows the real reason her business failed was because she relapsed and went back to using drugs While she is doing this with the help of her good friend Rory the police arrive and inform her that her daughter Lilly was killed in West Palm Beach Florida Reeling from shock and grief Maggie goes to Florida with the intention of finding out how her daughter had been living the last three years and how she died In Florida Maggie is amazed by the affluent lifestyle her daughter had been living and finds than one potential suspect for her murder However Detective Martinez seems to have fixated on one particular suspect Maggie. The heavens pour forth speech I have had a major book hangover since I finished The Heaven Spot It has been a long while since I became so invested in a novel and its characters It isn t difficult to feel sympathy for Maggie she has lost two children one to murder and one to a miscarriage her husband left the marriage and remarried and she has struggled with a drug addiction The author did a brilliant job of illustrating how difficult it is to stay clean when hardship hits and the stigma judgement and prejudice associated with addictions You might think that the novel is depressing but it isn t at all The setting was so well described I felt like I had been to West Palm Beach Despite all her trauma Maggie courageously perseveres in her daughter s memory with the help of her many new friends It is a beautifully written book and I am now a fan of Mary Frances Hill Many thanks to ireadbooktours for introducing me to this author The Heaven Spot
