ON THE OTHER HANDI ve read Czech writers than I can count but of their Slovak brethren not a single one until now This collection put together by Terra Librorum and well translated by Magdalena Mullek is an excellent place to begin I would say It s a collection of short stories with half the space in this book given to modern tales and the other what you might call mythic in countries and times that never existed or came to pass The stories are all generally good though in the first half there is always a stinger in the last paragraph you come to look for them and in the second half the twist is clearly telegraphed and can be seen coming That doesn t take away from the entertainment value of the book as a whole and for anyone looking for a good day s read I heartily recommend this volume ON THE OTHER HAND
