PDF Manohar kahani book Every other line in the book makes you either smile or marvel at the author s wit Even though the story is funny Srinivasan has painstakingly crafted each and every line Reading it feels like siting under a light drizzle on a hot summer day And likes like these make you laugh out loud The conjugal relations between Kalyani and her husband Bambi Mehta were aligned to the cosmic order which ordained that after some years married couples should lead semi detached lives They lived together like civilized senior couples should in the same bedroom but used different bathrooms They met each other briefly at specified times when their interactions exuded the genuine affection they felt for each other For most of the day they remained out of each other s hair There is no dearth of witty one liners here Don t wait and pick it up now 218 1 Plot a Kalyani and Bambi are a peaceable happy go lucky couple settled in an unnamed coastal town in the Konkan region While Bambi a retired bureaucrat self styled wannabe Shaman keeps himself busy exploring the laws of the spirit world Kalyani s days are spent in running the family business The Kokum Grove Resort b Things are moving at the usual uneventful pace when Mr Bobby Chander an NRI who deals in real estate visits the resort ostensibly as a tourist though his real intentions entail checking up the property for a potential buy in and expansion It is at this stage that the story gets interesting as Kalyani the owner of the resort resists his attempts to buy the property She declares point blank and in so many words that any proposal that envisages her parting away from the property which she has so painstakingly developed and which is now the sole raison d etre of her existence would not see light of the day c Stirred by the obstinacy of Mr Chander as Kalyani finds her back to the wall she considers combating the nefarious designs of the real estate magnate with the help of her charming younger sister Maya who excels as a con artist though at the time Maya is languishing in a godforsaken monastery in Laos as a punishment for robbing the monks of their prized antique religious artifact d Arrival of Maya on the scene spices up the story as she embarks on her ambitious plan to con the real estate tycoon The rest of the story brings out in flourishing details how Maya and her team of cohorts go about achieving their eventual aim of making Booby give up his designs on the resort In this act of daring do Maya is chiefly assisted by Kokil Bobby s step daughter Mithu Kalyani s son and a team of con artists associated with Maya e The climax of the story in the tradition of Priyadarshan s comedy flicks the reader does not find himself or herself lost or turning back the pages to recollect a particular character Though quite imaginative the story appears believable at every twist and turn and often than not the author gives the tale a spin which the reader could not preempt thus validating the storytelling prowess of the author The book is tightly edited and it is difficult if not impossible to detect any loose ends It is to the author s credit that despite so many twists and turns and a huge ensemble of cast he manages to keep the climax as exciting and unexpected as it set out to One of the chief features of the book is that it can be readily read and enjoyed by the readers of varied age groups be it children adults or old people Not many books are able to pass this test of timeless readership Thus without giving out spoilers I would say that it is a good story to come across which leaves the reader fulfilled after he she has turned the last page It has the right amount of adventure wit humour and suspense ovearall a complete entertainer Some of the witty one liners are so quotable that they ended up being jotted down in my journal for future use It also offers a window into the quality of sense of humour possessed by the author Definitely looking forward to books by the author Happy Reading 218 I had a lot of fun reading Raghu Srinivasan s Manohar Kahani Very different from the author s two previous books Manohar Kahani is a romp that borders on the farcical and demands you suspend your disbelief and just go along for the ride the author wants to take you on.
