The Way Home (Twelve Letters, #8) By Ellie Thomas
The way home hallmark
Have left London to visit Luc s parents in the English countryside The parents are refugees from the French Revolution who fled with their small children to England and safety on the estate of a relative They live in a cottage in genteel poverty and now grown up Luc supports them from London He is loyal and gentle with them The word choices and dialogue make for concise and pleasing scenes between Luc and family and between Luc and Harry in their moments and nights together while visiting Harry is lovely as a London fish out of water in the countryside The story is his POV He gives a delightful gift to the elderly French emigre parents by performing parts of a play in French Luc gives an implied command violin performance for the wealthy relations which irks loyal Harry.
Book the way of kings
At this point each installment in the 12 Letters series offers readers a chance to visit welcoming environs and see some familiar much beloved faces in ways that add depth and heart to both Here we get to see Luc and Harry again and to learn how their bond will weather interactions with and expectations of family There s a wealth of emotion expressed in so many gentle and caring ways between these two and along with the beautifully crafted nuances of historical setting it makes for an enjoyable read I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book Ellie Thomas Ellie Thomas lives by the sea She comes from a teaching background and goes for long seaside walks where she daydreams about history She is a voracious reader especially about anything historical She mainly writes MM historical romance. The way home nick Sequel to A Festive Gathering at Chelsea In the winter of 1817 Drury Lane Theatre actor Henry Kent otherwise known as Harry Smith ventures into deepest Essex to meet the parents of his French musician lover Luc Gerrard Harry isn t sure what to expect away from the familiar bustle of London apart from being bored witless in the countryside He s never come across a couple of French aristocrats at close quarters But Harry is nothing if resourceful and charming and besides he s with Luc which is what matters But once surrounded by the family that Luc adores Harry can t help thinking of his relatives across the Essex border on the Kent coast Harry made a clean break when he left Whitstable four years ago to pursue his career on the London stage resulting in his parents fury and a flat ultimatum He has only renewed contact with them by letter in recent months with Luc s encouragement Should Harry let things lie Or might he summon the courage to make a trip to the seaside in an attempt at reconciliation The Way Home Twelve Letters 8 Just as Luc and Harry are able to head home for a visit with family reading another installment in the Twelve letters world was like being welcomed home I loved catching up with these two as it s been quite a few books since we ve last seen their story As an established couple there isn t any of the drama when first forming a relationship Rather the drama here is simple misunderstandings of the expectations each son has in respect to their parents I was happily enjoying the story and then I got to the part when Harry is leaving his mum s house and a few tears might have leaked from my eyes That simple scene tugged hard at my heart strings It was quick and may be overlooked by other readers but to me it shows the true craftsmanship of the author to embed such emotions in a few sentences I m happy that Harry and Luc are still going strong and will be returning to London as a happy couple still Looking forward to see who our next couple we will catch up with might be. The way home book 2002 I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily Ellie Thomas A very gentle touching tale as our lovers Henry and Luc go visiting family I love how caring Henry is with Luc when we first met him I thought him a bit fly by night A very enjoyable story as usual On a wee personal note it tickled me as they went through places in Kent and mentioned seaside towns I knew well and spent many happy hours in my younger years it made me a touch homesick Ellie Thomas I love the characters that the author has created in this novella series They are vivid and real and I think about them after I finish each entry in the series Here the storyline is different in that relative newcomers to the series musician Luc and actor Harry but Luc is there to smooth his feathers I like their relationship The intimacy is shown in a sprinkling of physical scenes between these two attractive men who want and love each other There is a side trip for Harry to see his estranged parents at a seaside town They are rough oyster harvesting folk who welcome Harry but don t understand him It is a bittersweet reunion and the book ends on a touching note between Harry and Luc All of the stories in the Twelve Letters series have feels of some degree I am drawn into this Regency world here it is 1817 and look forward to the next installment and its quality writing and memorable characters Ellie Thomas I just love being back in this world with these men Really by now they all seem so familiar to me it s like revisiting old friends and being welcomed back like I ve never been away This is another novella in the 12 Letters universe featuring a set of established couples in the regency era in London This book catches up with Luc and Harry who feature in The Misfit and some of the other stories too They re an established couple and this is their first visit to Luc s parents in Essex whom Luc supports financially This isn t a standalone I d say it s essential to read The Misfit at least first This sets Harry to thinking of his own parents in the next county of Kent who he hasn t seen for a long time and isn t on the best of terms with I loved this chance to catch with Luc and Harry and see the furthering of their relationship and a deeper understanding of each other As they re away from London we don t get to spend time with their friend group although of course Percy makes his presence felt as he always does This was a lovely short read and as ever I m always happy to spend time in Ellie Thomas historical worlds. Book the way out I received an ARC and this is my honest review Ellie Thomas The Way Home Harry Luc With Luc Harry knew better than to take statements of deep and lasting devotion for granted Luc was a quiet man and he showed his commitment every day in small gestures of care and support They rarely quarrelled despite Harry s best efforts when the notion took him So when his usually reserved and reticent lover became openly romantic Harry instantly turned to mush Ellie Thomas provides a plethora of emotion in each of her Twelve Letters novellas and our hearts are transported to attachments made by her characters We have spent time with Harry and Luc but The Way Home fixes us in Luc s family domain where Harry obtains a deeper understand of Luc s family ties and must find a way to support his love As Thomas continues to add to her series I find myself wanting to see each of the stories in forms than written I want to see a serial on television or even on a theater screen There is simplicity in the connections of these men and each gets to shine when highlighted Relationships are shown to rise and fall but it is truly the connection made that allow Ellie Thomas the praise she deserves Ellie Thomas
