And an immersive plot I haven t felt so engaged in a read in a while And this being a genre I usually have a hard time getting into at that Bawb s story is definitely one I will continue if I have a chance Content Romance None. Book Assassins' academy Language there were a few instances of h ll and once b ch Violence the main character s are in training to be elite assassins Therefore the training they are involved in is at times violent or bloody but never in excessive detail. Assassins' Academy kindle reader Other As above mentioned the trainees go through some traumatic experiences There s also instance of a character being in the nude but with no explicit detail I received a free ARC copy via BookSirens for my honest review I was not required to write a positive review All thoughts and opinions are my own Assassins Academy The Book of Bawb.

Although I wish time had been spent on this aspect of the story I did find that the storyline was quite slow going and didn t really pick up until 70% through Because the story is very heavy on world building we spend a lot of time learning about these aspects and the majority of it was spent following the students and Bawb day to day as they levelled up through the ranks While the challenges were interesting and often tense or action packed I struggled to stay motivated to keep reading at times because I couldn t see where the book was heading I think the mystery and mission that Bawb takes upon himself should ve been at the forefront of this story.

I loved this book so much that I read the bulk of it in two days even with my busy schedule This series is a sequel to the Space Assassins series which was my introduction to this author I remember being surprised by the book partly because I had never heard of Space Opera but also because the first book was a novella and novellas are hit or miss for me My initial impressions of that series was that it felt like watching my husband play his RPG games so maybe this falls in the category of litRPG except there isn t a leveling up system per se I m currently reading something that is most definitely litRPG many aspects of a true RPG game are absent from this series and the previous one Still I was intrigued by the main character Hozark and the I read the I loved the series By the third book of that 5 book series I was completely hooked and I am planning on rereading the series at some point in the near future I will also say that when I closed the last book I was sad to say goodbye to Hozark and company So I was delighted when I heard he was starting a new series with Bawb who is mentioned in an epilogue in book 5 I m going to stay away from spoilers as much as possible because I think it s worth you checking out the previous series That said you CAN read this book and probably the rest of the series without having read Space Assassins Just know that there are things mentioned in this book that will act as spoilers for Space Assassins so if you have any intention of reading that series you may want to start there On to the good stuff The main character is Bawb and I really like him This story begins when he is an orphaned child and is eventually picked up and brought to the academy where Hozark grew up and developed This is kind of Harry Potterish in that he is an orphan who didn t know he had any special abilities he s brought to a school Hozark is kind of like Dumbledore and he even has an enemy that s like Draco Malfoy He has a ton of potential but he s thought of as too soft by the masters but we have to remember that this is an academy for assassins so that makes sense Still his heart is both a weakness and a strength and it s at this academy that he has to learn how to find the right balance I love that Hozark and his crew all show up at various times yet this is a book that is focused on Bawb He is very much a likable character and the friends he surrounds himself with are also very interesting His classmate enemy has the potential to go either way so it will be interesting to see how that storyline develops The story does open in the future present when Bawb is in the middle of a mission and then he reflects back on these years They never return to the present so I m wondering if the rest of the books will just continue where this one left off or if it will revisit the present before continuing with the story Either way I can NOT wait for the rest of the books in this series This is an excellent start to this series and I plan to pick up the rest of the books as they come out I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from BookSirens All thoughts and opinions are my own Assassins Academy The Book of Bawb 1 Well that was definitely a different and wild read The world was utterly immersive and a thrilling ride for sure The writing style was engaging and easy to read With colourful settings fantastic world building lively characters 1 Ok I have to say it WHEN IS BOOK TWO COMING OUT From this you can probably guess that I loved this book You didn t Well I do A Wampeh who has the abilities of his race but is too soft That was the original assessment of Bawb by the Wampeh Ghalian masters They were right at first but things changed as Bawb grew up This book really gets into the psyche of a young boy who is growing into a man It has action galore too The only problem for me is that it ended and the next book isn t yet available Assassins Academy The Book of Bawb 1 Remember a fire blazes but is dead without embers and storms rage as a lone feather floats. Academy of science fiction fantasy & gaming 5 I love a good story about assassins and a training school so I was immediately drawn to the blurb for this book We follow Bawb as he is plucked from an orphanage as a child and thrown into a world of hard work pain and unfathomable challenges He learns that he is one of the few of his species the Wampeh to have the proclivity for becoming a Ghalian highly trained assassins and spies who traverse space completing missions influencing politics and keeping other species safe from those who want to enslave them for their powers His training takes him through some of the hardest physical and mental situations a person especially a child can go through all with the goal of sharpening him into a weapon Mixed into that is a mystery occurring in the underground facility that most are unaware of but Bawb has seen flashes of something out of the corner of his eye Bawb was a likeable character he was flagged as someone who showed too much emotion and initially was thought to be likely to fail at his training But we quickly learn that sometimes having empathy can make you even stronger and lend you to skills which hardened people struggle with I loved all of the challenges that the team had to face the uniqueness and creativity alongside the well thought out messages that these tasks taught the students was absolutely fascinating the author Scott Baron truly has a skill here The worldbuilding was amazing so many different species of aliens different planets and imaginative beasts to learn about and find out how they all live alongside each other was a very enjoyable part of this story The mystery Bawb uncovers was interesting and a touch heart warming as well mentioned often and earlier in the book I also found that there was not a lot depth to the character descriptions the only way I could really tell the characters apart was by name and I couldn t really describe how any of them looked aside from the most basic species identifiers Elzina was probably the most interesting and most recognisable side character I found that the writing in this book utilised a lot of tell instead of show which unfortunately isn t my favourite style. Book Assassins' academy mortgage Overall I think the idea and creativity behind this book was absolutely incredible but the pacing and style sadly weren t for me in the end I do this would be well worth the read if you have read Baron s other series where Bawb and a few other characters are mentioned or are main characters but I have not read this series so perhaps that is why this didn t quite hold my attention like I was hoping it would I would like to thank Scott Baron and BookSirens for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review Assassins Academy The Book of Bawb 1 Assassins Academy is Scott Baron at his finest and most likely my new favorite book of his You can tell from the opening chapter that he has a heart for Bawb and truly enjoys writing him I love that it reads like a book six of his Space Assassins series with some returning favorite characters while also standing on its own and opening up a whole new story and cast It also takes a slightly different tone straying from the jokes and comedic aspects of his other series Assassins Academy is much serious which I love While it seems like a lot of adult authors rush through or skip over the school years of the main characters training Scott Baron sits in it comfortably and it pays off in the end We get to enjoy Bawbs adolescent years and see him get closer to becoming who he is in the Charlieverse Overall I think that was my favorite part of the story The one negative is that it starts to drag and slowdown a bit of the way through and the stakes seem very low Aside from training there s no real dilemma or struggle for Bawb aside from a classmate that he s pitted against the Draco to his Harry if you will BUT as it starts to slow down it picks up just as quickly a couple chapters later and Barons writing and likable characters than make up for it Overall if you re new to Scott Baron or have been following him since Bad Luck Charlie this book is a win If it s not in your library it should be I received an advance review copy for free and I m leaving an honest unbiased review voluntarily Assassins Academy The Book of Bawb 1
