Properties Trust I love visiting schools bookstores and libraries and I especially enjoy the wonderful imaginations of my students in creative writing workshops While our children were growing up we had almost as many pets as Indiana Bamboo does We had cats guinea pigs hamsters goldfish turtles hermit crabs a lab mix like Rainbow in 28 Days of Neon and the occasional garter snakes who were banished to a terrarium on our front porch Now we live with one rambunctious pup who is as wise as Rainbow and who loves to dance site_link Twelve year old Neon Blue Greene is queen of the cafeteria co captain of the cheerleading squad and has the most amazing dog any seventh grader could ask for Her only complaint in life is that her parents named her after the color of a sports energy drink until the morning she overhears them whispering and learns that she has twenty eight days left to live Neon needs a miracle but how can she get one in only twenty eight days Then it hits her She ll do a good deed every day She starts doing good deeds for everyone in town from motorcycle gang dropout Knuckles Malone to her autistic classmate Bobby who becomes a hero and friend when she needs one and in middle school thinks she s dying because she overhead her parents talking I just had a feeling it wasn t her but even at the end I was wrong I liked this book because I feel what Neon heard gives her a bit of a purpose She starts to really look at her world her school and people she may have never seen or got to know I m so happy she gave Bobby a chance to have a friend and I think they her tenacity She s a strong and independent girl who isn t afraid to stand up for herself I wish that I had been like that at 12 years old The jokes were super funny too and I enjoyed watching Neon come up with new ways to bring joy to other people The twist at the end was a bit sad but definitely understandable Kindle Edition This is a fun heartwarming middle grade book Twelve year old Neon overhears a conversation between her parents and concludes she is dying in 28 days So she comes up with a plan to do good deeds to earn a miracle to save herself That s when the fun begins Kids will identify with Neon and enjoy seeing her school family friends and neighbors through her eyes For many adult readers it will stir up nostalgic memories of growing up in a small town. 28 Days of neonne The little details Meira used to describe the various scenes will make readers feel like they are walking right along with Neon when she enters school or sits down to eat cookies in Mrs Valentine s house with her animal salt and pepper shakers Everyone will love Neon her cute little doggy Rainbow and all the well written cast of characters I especially enjoyed her little brother Wdeeb and her friend Weird Bobby This easy to read book has so much heart and includes new words for children to learn and enjoy Kindle Edition 28 Days of Neon shows a lighthearted but realistic view of a 12 year old s inner thoughts and actions during a turbulent time in her life It starts with a bang great hook and even if you happen to think you have everything all figured out in the first pages keep reading through this story s strong entertaining middle and ending There s a great cast of characters and Neon has a wonderful voice unique and believable The book s format is also unique making for a fast fun read Examples of this are the way the box steps are shown as Neon waltzes at a school dance and then at other times lines from the cheerleading squad s latest cheers are shown in a fun format But my favorite parts of this book are how dying is shown to be a natural gentle part of life and how Neon comes to really see the people around her rather than making assumptions about them Kindle Edition An original premise told from the perspective of the very likable Neon Blue Green I loved the heart humor and sensitivity of the characters and how the story unfolded Readers will find this book authentic entertaining heartfelt and memorable Kindle Edition
