Growing up in the 80s this book took me back to a time when you couldn t just google something to find the answer You had to put in the work to research finesse those in the know and put in lots of legwork to get to the bottom of the story Kat has ended up in the small town of Abilene working at the local newspaper She runs into issues getting information from the police and others but that doesn t stop her determination to get to the truth She is idealistic and believes that the truth needs to be shared with the public sometimes to the detriment of the police solving a case However she does learn that sometimes information needs to be withheld to make sure they catch the correct killer. Best cop book series There were a few elements that did feel rushed to me such as the way the crime was resolved The pieces connect and the wrap up just happens rapidly compared to the earlier examinations of the mystery This book isn t a mystery however so it does make sense that it would take a backseat to the relationship being developed Nonetheless Kat a heart for telling a crime story not just wanting to be a headline grabber The story is set on the far eastern side of West Texas in Abilene and revolves around the brutal death of an older woman Kat begins her investigative reporting into the story of why and who killed this woman. Book what cops know But Jones does not stop there with this story Kat meets Detective Callahan who is leading the investigation into the killing of this woman Tensions flare and then it becomes a love story Soulmates Do they exist Of course you must read the book to find out I m not giving any spoilers here because you need to read the book to discover for yourself The Cop Reporter is a quick read fab book about a woman finding her own feet again to stand on her own with her journalistic style along the way maybe she discovers soulmate love is real The Cop Reporter
