Only someone that has lost a pet knows how much pain and suffering it brings and no matter how much time it passes that hole in our heart never heals completely So when Madeleine finds out that her beloved cat Padm can be cloned she is only too happy to go ahead Needless to say what follows is a horror story with the clone looking exactly like Padm but with significant differences in behaviour I so much enjoyed this novelette short and evil just how I like them The plot is evident from the start but the author s aim is not to surprise or to throw unexpected twists although I was taken aback one time The purpose is to make the reader stop and think to reflect on the possible consequences of seemingly innocuous choices And it definitely made me reflect I also loved the essay connected to the story which I found very informative and an opportunity to explore the subject from different angles I can honestly say that by the time I finished both the novelette and the essay my thoughts had changed for good I m looking forward to reading from Dimaro as I enjoyed both the writing right to the point and how the story made me feel Thanks to the author for a copy and this is my honest opinion In the Darkness Eyes and Teeth Pet Sematary meets The Gremlins with a dash of Frankenstein in a gory new novella by Felix I. In the darkness, eyes and teethqueen A story of real seeming characters with palpable feelings who make terribly wrong choices for all the seemingly right reasons Fast paced and darkly humorous with very well amped tension complete with that first class edge of the seat build up to the shit hits the fan fast and hard moment this novelette is a treat for fans of the genre. Book in the darkness eyes and teeth review At less than 100 pages Felix does a fantastic job building the story giving you a feel for the characters and their family dynamic and just throwing you right into the drama This is in the same vein as Pet Sematary by Stephen King and Damned to Hell by Mike Salt I won t go into much of the plot so I can avoid giving anything away but this was definitely gory and terrifying It s also thought provoking as I actually wasn t aware that pet cloning has become a real thing and there is a well done essay about it by the author at the end of the story which is definitely worth a read I did want growth from the characters however that s just a personal preference of mine and I feel it wasn t totally necessary given the actual point the author was getting across I still had some questions by the end but leaving things unanswered is also part of the terror so I completely understand This was a very entertaining quick read In the Darkness Eyes and Teeth I really enjoyed this novelette about a very bad meow meow This dystopian horror tale about cloning gone wrong and how shit can hit the fan with the blink of an eye I was curious and engaged the whole time which isn t easy to do with such a short story I also appreciated the adhd friendly length of this story thank you Felix There is also an essay on cloning written by the author at the end of the book Not only did I learn a thing or two about cloning it also brought up questions I d never thought of We will always have growth and change in the field of Science and technology but that doesn t mean Mother Nature won t interfere If you are a cat person at the beginning of this story you ll still be one by the end I can almost guarantee that but hey find out for yourself Thank you to the author for sending an ARC of this story In the Darkness Eyes and Teeth Madeleine cannot forget the day she lost her precious Padm she would do anything for her sweet cat to be alive again Two years later Barbara Streisand manages to clone her dead dog and it gives Madeleine hope that she may be able to bring back Padm How far would you go to bring back your pet or loved one Would you go to this extreme All I can say is that Madeleine has bitten off a lot than she can chew and the result well Pet Semetary comes to mind I want to stress how much I loved this short sweet novella It was 60ish pages and then as a special treat we have an excellent essay from the author in regards to pet cloning Because guess what This is a commercial business you can actually clone your pet Honestly my mind is blown My mind keeps going back to my childhood and the news headlines of Dolly the sheep the first cloned mammal I had no idea that we d actually reached a stage where this is mainstream Let s put my thoughts aside because I think this topic is something I could probably discuss for a good while.
