But there were so many editing mistakes and passages that seemed like they were meant to be nixed because they were just the same thing phrased in a different way or nearly the same way At one point the author even mixes up the main characters name for the name of a side character that was mentioned the chapter prior Though those mistakes might not be in the published version Portrait of a Spinster A Clean Regency Romance Beatrix has failed to find a husband Resigned to her life she chooses to sit for a portrait to be painted The path life takes because of that scandalous choice is surprising for everyone David happens to see the unfinished portrait and wants to get to know her Will a confirmed bachelor be able to win the heart of a confirmed spinster. Book Portrait of a spinster definition

SPINSTERHOOD OR MARRIAGE This book is a sweet and clean quick read but I wouldn t call it a romance novel although it has a HEA It s about the female main character Beatrix and her spinsterhood than about her romance with David. Portrait of a Spinster pdffiller Beatrix is rather plain and after five years without suitors has resigned herself to a life as a spinster After being portrayed forbidden by a painter she is banished to the family estate in Yorkshire which she doesn t mind at all She looks forward to spending her time on her beloved moors and reading But when she meets her sympathetic neighbor she is no longer sure whether a life of monotony as an spinster is preferable to a life with a man who loves her and shares her interestsI recommend this book to all who are interested in a realistic imagery of this period I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily Portrait of a Spinster A Clean Regency Romance Beatrix who believed herself to be a spinster after five unsuccessful Seasons sat to have her portrait painted at the request of a newly popular American artist Unfortunately before it was completed her mother burst into the room and expelled the painter Her brother James was dispatched to have the painting destroyed and Beatrix was banished to the family s country estate David son of a baronet who had made his fortune in the fur trade was of a scholar and academic than most of the gentlemen of the ton He had a quirky group of friends one of whom was the American painter In an effort to engage in Society he and his parents threw a ball which was attended by Beatrix and her family Fast forward and Beatrix is back in the countryside and David is pursuing her Add to that a flirtation between servants unexpectedly frightful storms a scandal caused by her gorgeous but dimwitted brother and a few chance meetings on the moors and you have a recipe for a romance between a spinster and a confirmed bachelor Among other things this story is a commentary on the way Society treats those who do not fit its exacting requirements I found it to be an original entertaining quick read that has quite a few offbeat flourishes making it interesting and unique Portrait of a Spinster A Clean Regency Romance 2 Up top I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. EBook Portrait of a spinster stitcher 1 Nonsensical writing Initially the writing seemed competent enough but after the prologue a lot of the dialogue is incredibly clunky You barely get any description of any of the characters or their facial expressions Besides beatrix and James you get near to nothing description wise All I remember being said about David is that he is tall and lanky and not conventionally attractive but handsome to Beatrix. Kindle Portrait of a spinsterz Multiple character seem to actively talk past each other for example a character will say they tried to contact Beatrix countless times but didn t get an answer They will briefly talk about something else and then the person mentions again that they had sent letters and Beatrix will act like this is the first time the person mentioned that fact There is so many instances of this and it made reading frustrating. Portrait of a Spinster ebookee The author also seems to have a WEIRD obsession about slavery to the point it s brought up multiple times starting in the Prologue despite the book having nothing to do with the topic The one token black character doesn t even get a single line of dialogue but there are multiple instances of people talking about him just to remind the reader hey remember racism Without actually sensibly talking about the topic Also the book pretends like racism towards black people was invented by Americans it s not like they were Brits once or anything as if British people didn t start and dominated the Transatlantic slave trade until less than a decade before the official regency era began People in Britain were absolutely racist towards black people and actively participated in colonialism and the exploitation of people in India and the African Continent way past the Regency era We have a British character calling an Americans retelling of a world of slavery plantations cotton fields and cotillions in the south barbaric but also verbatim somehow almost fantastical. Kindle Portrait of a spinsterz We have a family member be vaguely racist in front of a character who is friends with the black character He doesn t admonish the racist remark despite his token friend being addressed inappropriately What a guy But the guy also explains that he likes the black character because he s from an ExOtIc country and pretty much just as a literally token exotic friend making him seem worldly. Kindle Portrait of a spinster meaning The book tried to convince the reader that Beatrix is smart and oh so bright but good god she is constantly acting like an idiot and making some of the dumbest choices ever like going outside when the butler warns her that there will be a storm and she goes anyway telling him that she s fine and goes out when she wishes just for surprise surprise a storm to come leading to her getting drenched dirty and lost And then she does this again later on telling off the butler in a scene framed as her standing up for herself in the face of male condescension when it s really just a butler doing his job Off course he would tell the daughter of the man who pays him to not go out when there is an eminent storm brewing If she got hurt that would probably cost him his job which funny to mention a job she low key threatens him with trying to imply that she got him the job but he responds like a king that his own merit is what got him the job Beatrix is honestly not a very fun protagonist She is downright rude to her maid multiple times tries to leave an establishment without paying a barkeep who sheltered her during the storm and who was defending her against multiple men verbally threatening to harm her And Beatrix doesn t care even after he calls after her to pay She selfish whiny and was so unlikeable at times that I genuinely wondered what exactly David saw in her Beatrix family was cartoonishly demeaning towards her to the point that they were sabotaging her marriage prospects Like why do they complain about her being unwed just for them to essentially tell everyone around how bad of a bride she d make and reminding everyone hey remember how UGLY and OLD our daughter is and how she doesn t have a dowry But then again these characters are at least canonically meant to be idiots. EPub Portrait of a spinsterz Multiple characters in the book seem unable to recall faces of people they meet and have to be reminded that they have met a person before which was baffling to me and confusing to read especially when there isn t an indicator for much time passing David apparently has a face so forgettable that not only both Beatrix and her mother can t recall it but seemingly also the author because I read this book over the course of the last two days and could not even tell you what the man looks like besides tall and skinny and not conventionally handsome. Portrait of a Spinster epub file There were enjoyable parts in the book but the editing mistakes the plot often hinging on people being idiots and the weird need of the author to continuously bring up slavery actively spoiled my reading experience I do feel a bit bad about how low this review is discover if the unmarriageable spinster Beatrix will defy the odds Could it be possible that this plain looking spinster will become a blushing bride In the elite society known as The Ton Beatrix s lack of success in finding a suitable husband becomes a source of concern for her and her family Tired of endless failed seasons she takes a bold step that sets tongues wagging she poses for a portrait Resigned to live out her days as a spinster Beatrix retreats from the suffocating London society and seeks solace in the serene landscapes of Yorkshire Just when she begins to surrender herself to a life of solitude fate intervenes in a most unexpected way A mysterious and enigmatic stranger tall and thin enters her secluded world As hard as she tries she cannot escape from his captivating presence As this stranger s interest in her grows Beatrix finds herself falling in love Portrait of a Spinster A Clean Regency RomanceDid not enjoy the read Portrait of a Spinster A Clean Regency Romance site_link post a commentPortrait of a Spinster: A Clean Regency Romance.

. Kindle Portrait of a spinster records I couldn t tell you if the story took place over the course of a month or a year because there is very few indicators for the passing of time
