I thought that this was a beautiful read I loved the descriptions of Italy and it all sounded so beautiful and picturesque Even the way that the foods were described was actually mouthwatering I really felt for our main character Luke as he was clearly still grieving and wanted to almost fill in the gaps of the years before he met her and just glean information about her to help keep that memory of her alive He seemed like such a lovely man and I was pleased that I think he got what he wanted from his trip I thought this was beautifully written and found that I was quickly engrossed in the storyline I liked the fact that there were some really thought provoking moments throughout the book Kindle Edition Dark Clouds Bring Waters is a relatively short read.

The you learn about him while reading this book the you start to feel a connection After loosing his wife and inspiration he is on a hunt to find out about the woman he loved and he does this through some old letters between her and her ex. Book dark clouds bring waters to the world Deeply emotional you will not be able to look away from this book I was stuck in from the start and the I read the I wanted to know While reading this you will not only root for the mmc and his healing journey but also feel his pain and love for his deceased wife So beautifully told Ridley does not pull their punches and you get to see the nitty gritty of this characters life up close and in detail Kindle Edition While it would be true to say that I ve read other novels that cover similar ground.

Along with gaining information about Billie s past allowed Luke to really look inside himself and start his own healing process I was totally taken by Luke The depth of feeling for his wife and his immersion in his grieving really endeared me to him and had me a little worried about what he might find on his journey Such a relatable character that had me willing everything to be ok for him and for him to heal I was quite emotional reading this as it does make you think about your own situation and what if I was ever in this situation Makes me want to talk with my own husband and gain as much information as possible I loved the setting in Italy and loved that the descriptions transported me.

At just over 130 pages But into those pages the author manages to pack in a huge amount of emotion. Dark clouds bring waters epub pdf 5 s from me Kindle Edition A short but deep read At so little pages I wasn t expecting this book to pack as big of a punch as it did Luke is really an interesting and complex character I can t think of one that has done it so poignantly and succinctly Ridley covers a lot in just 136 pages It begins with a prologue a letter from 1993 in which Adam writes to Billie expressing regret at how their break up went so badly but telling her he s happy now with Christine and hoping she s happy too. Book dark clouds bring waters to life We move back to the present and meet Luke a middle aged comedy writer A widower he hasn t written a word since his wife died of cancer three years ago Billie was Luke s second wife and they had a good life together and Luke s son Jude from his first marriage eventually warmed to her Adam was Billie s first husband and it was the discovery of a pile of letters and her diaries from their time together of which the prologue was the last one that took Luke back to Italy to the beautiful little resort near Genoa where they spent many happy holidays including Billie s last one when she was ill. Book dark clouds bring waters to the world Adam had moved to the same region of Italy and Luke plans to return the letters to him unread bar that last one but also he d love to learn about Billie s life before they met But will Adam be willing to share given the bad feelings when they split Luke hasn t gone away on his own since Billie s death and having gone back to an old haunt brings memories flooding back the staff remember him and Billie too He grieves afresh but also it will allow him to move on as he comes to terms with having lost the love of his life The reader also hopes that he will recover his sense of humour and that new friendships might happen Ridley handles Luke s grief very sensitively it s so well done and it did make me well up a little Then there is the mystery of Billie and her mercurial and sometimes difficult moods The gradual reveal to show us her true mature character and the insights that came out when she was so ill was equally affecting This was such a lovely novella with a protagonist that was easy to love and endings tied up to complete satisfaction I so enjoyed Luke s Italian pilgrimage and was transported to the Italian Riviera with him Kindle Edition It s very well written and engaging in its way but this book proved too dark for me The protagonist Luke is a professional comedy writer and this book is a tragedy the only jokes I spotted being of the dad joke groan species Luke is pining for his wife Billie who died of cancer two or three years earlier It s not something he can get over He is wracked by jealousy for her previous loves and suspected affairs believes she has concealed a lot of her life from him and is determined to find out all he can It takes a lot of pages before we begin to understand why Billie was such a wonderful person It s not a very long book at about 130 pages and has a happy ending but the reader is dragged into beautifully described melancholy for the first 125 or so That of course doesn t make it a bad book in fact it s a rather good one but I suggest an intending reader should be aware in a tranquil mood than I was at the time and prepared to join the author on his voyage into introspection grief and discovery Not good bedtime reading Kindle Edition Dark Clouds Bring Waters is short novel at just 136 pages in the paperback edition Despite the short length it is a novel that is so affecting so emotional and at times very raw I am positive that the author has drawn from his own emotions and feelings whilst writing this which adds a poignancy to the story It is breathtaking in its beauty at times startling in imagery and beautifully developed Luke Jessop is a comedy writer he is also a widow and the death of his wife Billie three years ago has left him bereft unable to write and struggling with life overall Luke recently discovered a box of letters and some diaries in Billie s office he only read the most recently dated letter which was sent to Billie in May 1993 many years before she and Luke met Luke always knew that Billie had had relationships in the past she was a beautiful vibrant intelligent woman and they didn t meet and fall in love until they were both older Reading the words written in the letter sparks a thirst for knowledge in Luke and the reader meets him as he lands at a small airport in Genoa Italy. Pdf dark clouds bring waters to earth The title felt a little clunky there is a line part way through the book which I had felt was a better title The Embers of Doused Fires but then almost at the end of the book we learn that dark clouds bring waters is a line from The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan which refers to the soothing effect of rain after intense heat I wonder if this reference should have come a lot earlier Additionally because it feels clumsy and may not be instantly recognised by a lot of readers I wonder if the author should consider changing it for something with better flow Obviously this is just my personal opinion. Dark clouds bring waters book review Settings and characters were beautifully described developed and investigated with the knowledge that there are often hidden depths to what we see on the outside Here s an example Luke made his way back to his room to shower As the water gushed he felt a tear falling from his eye Soon came then a torrent of them accompanied by a gutteral sound of choked pain He pressed his hands into the shower wall bowed his head and felt the water cascade down his back He remembered her back So slim so smooth so perfect Until the cancer drugs demanded payment for their work and caused a huge black bruise at its centre Like a target He stood weeping for how long he knew not Until he grew tired of his tears Kindle Edition Sometimes it is the cover that initially attracts me to a book Other times it might be the blurb or reviews that I have read What initially intrigued me with this book was it s title I guessed it was a quote from somewhere but I could not identify it If you would like to read my full review please visit my blog at Kindle Edition This was super short and quick read at only just over 130 pages but it was such an immersive and emotional one too Comedy writer Luke lost his wife 3 years ago and since her death he s been unable to write a thing When he comes across a bundle of old letters written between his wife Billie and her ex lover Adam Luke becomes obsessed about knowing the whole story and learning about who his wife really was Luke s journey sees him travelling back to Italy where he and Billie spent many a happy holiday over their relationship Taking this journey back there really exposes him to the base emotions and memories of their time together This briefly to the gorgeous scenery sights sounds and tastes of this beautiful area A little bit disappointed to come back to a dreary UK at the end A beautiful quick read to immerse yourself in for an afternoon Definitely an author I d like to read of Kindle Edition
