A town called hometown sheet music Levi made some really bad choices in this story but there was one he made near the end of this story which Adria accepted with grace and thankfulness and I am not sure that I as an individual would have been as gracious I saw it as overtly controlling and manipulating as well as his other mistakes but we are all different people parenting alone in a dangerous neighborhood with the inability to move out or move up Desperation can set in Even the neighborhood itself feels threatening and author Milla Holt captures that sentiment perfectly in a single sentence The building crouched its gray bulk on the edge of the concrete courtyard looming over a dingy square like a neighborhood bully Holt s protagonists Adria Levi are also real and nuanced Like so many of us they re working hard paying bills dealing with difficult family and work dynamics while trying to do the right thing Also like many of us they find themselves facing perhaps having their lives defined by a moment of poor judgement Adria asks the question simply So what happens when Christian s mess up Another of Holt s characters answers the question with an excellent metaphor I use my GPS a lot when I m driving I put in the address where I want to go and it ll tell me how to get to my destination But sometimes my trip doesn t go as planned even if I have the instructions right in front of me but the amazing thing that happens is when you get lost the GPS will create a new route based on where you are now and tell you how to get to your original destination The novel and characters are well written and Holt isn t afraid of including difficult and real life conflict Readers may find themselves needing to suspend their disbelief at the unlikely discovery of not one but two unknown and ridiculously wealthy relatives who offer single mom life preservers along the way Holt also tended to display emotional shifts with repetitive phrases like his face heated her face heated heat flooded Adria s face and anger heated Levi s face Each description felt real but I found myself hoping for diverse emotional descriptions each time something heated up.
