And the way they pulled together to help each other through some really tough times I also enjoyed Usha and Ahni s relationship and support for one another The pacing is always quick and it never felt like a slow time as there was always something going on I enjoyed seeing the years fly by and never feeling like I was going through a dull bit. How far would you go to save a friend Would you start a war Would you kill a king Kel is born into a family of spies in a land torn apart by war Savage creatures stalk the realm in its aftermath Kel s best friend was orphaned by the conflict and when he goes missing it s up to Kel to bring him home Ahni a princess from an island nation manifests magic and is swept away from the palace to the Academy a testing ground for channelers run by an ancient order shrouded in secrecy And at the center of it all a boy heir to a fallen empire The echoes of war have hollowed him out on the inside and in the emptiness an ancient evil has taken root Its shadow threatens the world What The Echoes SayAs a big fan of multi storyline books this one truly grabbed my attention which isn t always easy in today s world of endless distractions The author is clearly a gifted writer with an exceptional way with words but what really stood out was their clear vision for plot and character development It felt like they knew these characters inside and out and that made the story feel mature and fully realized Honestly I didn t even realize how intricately woven the plot was until after I finished the book in just a few days I was engrossed in the lives of Ahni Javed Damion and the others The impending conflict the dark magic and creatures kept me out of my analytical brain Which is exactly why I love to read Each narrative thread was equally fascinating I never felt like I was rushing through one storyline just to get back to another The pacing was perfect balancing detail with non stop momentum towards the finale There were certainly dark themes and a general intensity that pulsed through the story The violence and darkness didn t feel like senseless campy gore it felt purposeful and added to the realism of the characters world Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I m eagerly awaiting a sequel I m especially curious about what s next for Ahni my newfound friend in the pages What The Echoes Say This YA fantasy novel follows the story of three best friends Kel and Nik sons of refugees and immigrants and an orphan Javed with an unknown past as they traverse a land threatened by war power and deceit as each of them learns how far they will go to save a friend to save their family to save a kingdom They meet key characters along the way they help them find truth teach them how to fight protect and hone their inner turmoil to overcome fear and learn to trust in one another Steeped in magic monsters and otherworldliness this sweeping fantasy is action packed I felt a sense of peril from the start of the book until the very end as if I too was living in war desperate to defend a nation. What the echoes say book review I felt that some conversations between characters lacked the depth of emotion and these moments made it difficult to get a sense of the characters personalities and intentions some of the conversations felt unfinished or just extremely brief especially during moments of grief and fear I just didn t feel the anguish these certain moments tried to portray making it difficult to connect to these characters and it made me yearn for deeper conversations between them However this did not deter me from continuing to read the book this novel has a lot of elements that I enjoy in a story a quest the journey plus the bravery belief and inability to accept defeat Thank you for reaching out directly and giving me the incredible honor to read your first book in exchange for an honest review I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I very much look forward to a second book that ending had a hint of a cliffhanger We need Jessi What The Echoes Say Great book A must I was looking for a new book to read Finished W. Echoes day nursery manchester T and dune just recently Came across this book and loved it Highly recommend What The Echoes Say Read this as a judge for the SPFBO self published fantasy blog off hosted by Mark Lawrence round 10 This is a world spanning epic which blends together various ages and types of people through their lives and their intentions to help stop a war and save their people The writing flies by fast and spans many years and various parts of a big land There are multiple PoVs and all of them weave together into a story about a world haunted by a new threat and an ongoing wartime There s magic at academy which works with anyone who shows signs of magic channelling and different creatures who come in various shapes and sizes There s also a nefarious being who seems to be pulling lots of strings behind the scenes and masterminding many of the politics We follow a couple of different characters namely Kel a young son who wants to be there for his friend who is going through a lot of self reflection and has a big secret in his past to uncover Ahni a princess who has manifested an unknown power and who needs to go to the academy to learn how to use her power and a lost heir to a throne We also see Kel s father and further family and Nik who is a close friend of his There are a couple of other viewpoints later on from creatures and magic users but the main characters are the above. What the echoes sayzer Some of the pros which I liked about this story The beginning of this book really starts with a bang I felt as though the pace and set up here was a lot of fun and drew me straight into the plotlines We follow a father and mother their sons and their daughter and I liked that we got to span a few generations with the different viewpoints I would have liked to see a bit of the family as there were definitely some female characters the daughter in particular who I wanted to hear much from We follow a group of friends and these friends Kel Nik and Javed are determined to look out for one another I really liked seeing their support for one another and I would have enjoyed diving a bit deeper as a reader I did feel as though the action overtook the development of the characters and it wouldn t have been a bad thing to have some slower moments of reflection and development I did feel like some of the themes and creatures in this book didn t feel overly unique or original and although I don t think it s an issue to lean into troupes I did feel like I wasn t getting a whole lot of new from the world or characters I did feel as though this book ended on a bit of an unknown as currently there seems to not be a sequel listed and yet there seems to be a lot to come Overall I liked this story and I think there s a lot here which readers who enjoy fantasy will like This is a fast paced plot and has some very fun moments of fight scenes action anticipation and politicking but for me I just wanted it to be a little deeper with the characters to really pull me into the story In the end a solid 3. What the echoes sayq meaning I think we all know my love for multi POV fantasy stories and this one really kept me gripped through Which is hard to do these days when you feel like you ve read everything in one way or another The short snappy sentences were filled with enough description to keep me intrigued and I m always a massive fan of a longer book with shorter chapters This let me connect with the characters and meant that the pacing of the novel was handled well and didn t let up at any stage The plot itself is one that you have to keep a close eye on Everything was expertly woven throughout and I was eager to find out about the world itself and what is happening We are thrust into this at the very start and I was glad of this instead of a slow set up In doing so the story just kept going from strength to strength and never let up There were dark moments that were relevant to the story and didn t feel like being added just for the shock value I enjoyed this one and am excitedly curious for where BC Rico goes next What The Echoes Say
