Gretchen Farrow was just barely twenty when the love of her life slipped through her fingers Heartbroken and in disbelief she has spent the last two decades living in solitude Banished from Aelwrathe for twenty years for stealing the King s Trident Alexander Turner is finally done serving his sentence Now he s back and he has every intention of making Gretchen his The only problem is she doesn t know him any But she s about to A second chance redemption paranormal romance She s grumpy he s cinnamon roll Served a sentence Mermaids Second chance Redemption Slow burn The Mermaid s RefusalI received a free eARC of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review In The Mermaid s Refusal we follow the life of Gretchen after the love of her life Alex is banished from Aelwrathe When his 20 year sentence finally comes to an end will things return to what they were I loved this so much My heart broke for Gretchen as her life was turned upside down but burst with pride when she did not let it defeat her She is such a relatable character and has her flaws I couldn t help but admire her strength and courage Alex is a wonderful man and it is obvious that he only carries out actions with the hope that they will benefit his and Gretchen s life together Their relationship whilst having the occasional rough patch is admirable and full of love Whilst this is a short story the only thing I felt was missing was their journey to have a family We see at the start of the book that Gretch has a miscarriage and is unable to carry a child due to severe endometriosis but I would have liked to see the process they went through to get their perfect family I adore how Stephanie sheds light on parts of life that are the reality for so many women and families At 87 pages long this took me just under an hour to read Please note there are mentions of miscarriage infertility and endometriosis Stephanie is one of my auto read authors and I cannot recommend her work enough 8 10 Stephanie Swann Cute and quick read Stephanie Swann
