A quick reading comic novel with a real heart The Monosexual The Monosexual is a story about Vincent a man in an all out denial of the end of his most recent relationship with a litany of excuses about why his world has ended and a stubborn refusal to move on Over the course of the book he travels to the city his ex abandoned him to to search for her and finds a begrudging new love interest instead I don t want to give anything away but what comes next leads to a deep exploration of love and loss and an inspiring blueprint to moving forward after an immense period of suffering Yet for all the deep lessons here it is the path the book takes to unpacking them that makes it so endearing This book is a quick read told with a sharp wit that unfolds in so many outlandish hilarious and entertaining snafus which Vincent gets himself into trying to avoid dealing with his own feelings In that process readers are constantly aware of the dramatic irony of seeing a protagonist so set on his own self pity and self sabotaging his own interests as a result when a little acceptance of his circumstances might go a long way in healing him if he d just get out of the way of his own ego Not to mention the stunning twist that happens over the course of the book and an ending that is surprisingly happy without being saccharine or sentimental or unbelievable It is a must read for anyone who has ever suffered an immense heartbreak and been trapped in a cycle of shame about it The Monosexual
