Tyler Jones is celebrating hitting his mid thirties with a new job and it s unlike anywhere he s ever worked before Pleasure Seekers is an sex toy retail company based in the seaside resort of Brighton On his first day Tyler finds himself in a very sticky situation with the drop dead gorgeous Danny Healy This man is next level handsome When Danny offers to help Tyler become personally acquainted with some of the items the company sells online the heat truly blasts off But Tyler has never been one for meaningless sex When he gets to know Danny he finds so much than he ever expected What could happen if the lines of their arrangement were blurred a little Trigger warning discussion of historical emotional struggles and attempted suicide Thrill Pleasure Seekers 1 Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I was gifted my copy of this book Tyler starts his new job in a new town and promptly finds himself testing lube of all things with the most gorgeous man he ever met in the office with others Danny works in the warehouse at Pleasure Seekers They embark on a friends with benefits type thing that quickly moves into something Both men carry some baggage can they overcome that A quick glance tells me I ve not read Kristian Parker s work before and my TBR pile just got a whole lot bigger Why have I not I don t know I think he just hadn t hit my radar But I met him recently at a book signing and now I get to jump into his worlds I loved this I really did Tyler and Danny are so suited to each other they really are I loved the polar opposite in each man s family dynamics While Danny s family are very supportive and hilarious Tyler s is not And this marked difference is part of Tyler s baggage Danny s is totally different but you should know there is talk of attempted suicide by one of Danny s family members Very emotional reading that and I cried a bit for Danny and that character It s well written from both Tyler and Danny s point of view and we get it all Tyler s immediate and powerful reaction to Danny Danny s attraction to Tyler but his hesitation to start anything Their joy at coming together and their pain when Danny finds out what Tyler said And it s THAT bit that I loved so much about this book While Danny was very hurt by Tyler s words his reaction wasn t what you would expect He stepped BACK from Tyler but not totally AWAY And I loved how that happened because I was expecting a massive break up make up thing and while we get the make up bit the break up doesn t really happen Am I making sense Probably not but I m trying not to spoil it for anyone I loved the supporting cast Tyler s family notwithstanding Eddie and Scott who share with Tyler and also work at Pleasure Seekers are funny but I think there is a lot they are both hiding and I look forward to their stories Eddis is next so I assume book three will be Scott Oh by the way Even though all these guys work in a sex toy shop there is very little about toys And I loved that too Danny does play a bit with Tyler though 5 full and shiny stars same worded review will appear elsewhere Gay and Lesbian Romance 3. Frilly skirt 5 2 This was so cute Tyler is coming into a job at Pleasure Seekers as a new upstairs level manager There he meets Danny an operator in the warehouse Danny is the bees knees in a rated R way and offers to corrupt Tyler a bit The premise of them getting together the teaching Tyler bit felt unimportant and not really flushed out but the rest of their relationship was so organic and sweet The chemistry was there and the cute little crush vibes were amazing They both crave something bigger than what they have for different reasons Tyler just wants to be accepted for who he is and Danny wants to explore who he wants to be Together they complete each other I just thought this was one of those books that yes has a bit of conflict but the majority of the book is just happiness It s not overly deep It s not all that complex It s just two men finding love Was everything flushed out and perfect No of course not There were some things that didn t quite make sense or things that were mostly unnecessary but overall I thought it was sweet and wonderful I received a complimentary copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary review Gay and Lesbian Romance Check out our full post for THRILL on Wicked Reads. Thrillseekers I will let you enjoy the body of the story without saying but believe me when I say that this promises to be another fun and fabulous series Reviewers received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Gay and Lesbian Romance Very good start to a new series with lots of interesting and amusing characters in an intriguing location I particularly liked Danny with his really understandable insecurities The chemistry between the MCs was palpable The third act drama was a bit too obvious as to what was going to happen for me I m really looking forward to the next book Gay and Lesbian Romance IRONICALLY ANYTHING BUT THRILLINGI welcomed this with open arms when I claimed an ARC at Booksprout it s by a British author it s in British English it promises sex toys and two men getting frisky with it How could this possibly not be good Well it s probably my fault for jumping to conclusions going by the sex toy theme and the explicit tag that this book is geared towards adults or new adults because it quickly became apparent that the target audience is much younger that being just one of the reasons this didn t work for me Since this is a long review I ll just sum it up in one paragraph for those who want to get the gist of it and don t want to read beyond this For me the biggest issue about this was the writing style and execution which was very rigid and impersonal inevitably resulting in one dimensional characters and paired with the nondescript plot which regrettably was nowhere near as exciting as the blurb made it out to be that wasn t helped at all by the bland heavily tell and not show storytelling just felt emotionally constipated overall I d say if this were a movie it would be one with no background music at all no swoony mood setting cinematography where almost everything just plays out in a borderline clinical and impassive manner like it couldn t decide whether it wanted to be a love story or a documentary about a love story but ultimately ending up of the latter that it felt akin to something AI generated Sorry that s not meant as an insult it s just my honest instant impression Technique wise I can t really complain I mean to me British English in books is always good perhaps because it s what I m used to it s easier on my editor self sensibilities plus I am very much an anglophile at heart but tragically not even my biased love for all things English Briticisms or my unapologetic kink thusiasm for non vanilla bedroom play were able to get me invested in this story. s plain as a sandwich with no filling the bread slices not even buttered I reckon this must break some record for being the MOST VANILLA romance about SEX TOYS I have ever read and I have read hundreds heck I did not even think it was possible to write kinky sex in a vanilla manner until this which is quite hardcore vanilla haha In line with that I don t understand why this is labelled explicit either because the sex is unimaginative and uninspiring and again it didn t help that things were described in the driest most detached way possible it s also practically non graphic that it might as well have been closed door I ve read a tonne of closed door sex that were actually gripping than this It s so dull and drab in fact that if I didn t know better I d think a young adult person with no actual sexual experience whatsoever outside hardcore vanilla had written it because a love story with such frosty steam levels that it actually gave me frostbite is deemed explicit To illustrate Their first tumble consists of one blowjob and a masturbator toy Does that sound fuck tastic Hell no and I repeat a masturbator toy Used in the cleanest most textbook manner possible like Danny was a certified model for the safe and totally hardcore vanilla usage instruction video Is Danny delusional Isn t the irony of proclaiming himself a sex coach lost to him when they hardly even had sex he hardly did anything at all Nothing that Tyler could not have done himself that is it kind of says a lot that I pictured a robot might have made a exciting sexual partner than Danny What s pathetic is that afterwards thirty something year old Tyler raved about this mutual masturbating session like it was the most mind blowing sex he s ever had when it was actually one of the saddest most miserable sex scenes I ve ever read I mean if I hooked up with someone who claims to be a sex god only for them to use a boring sex toy on me hardly even touching me with his own body all night I sure as hell would be anything but flattered Unless I actually signed up for a sex toy tester kinky fantasy RP or something Plus It s a friggin masturbator it s meant for solo play Yet strangely everyone in this book acts like sex toys are only for couples and that using it any other way say like heaven forbid using it on yourself ALONE is an unforgivable crime SOMETHING ONLY A DEPRAVED DEVIANT WOULD DO Which of course boggles the living fuck out of me I certainly hope this is not how all British people think sex toys should be used because that s a whole new level of depressing I was so shocked after reading their first sex scene and the hype they built around it because it very much echoed scenarios that only prepubescent boys on the cusp of discovering sex and mutual masturbation for the first time would genuinely find amazing certainly not two full grown adult men who supposedly have played the field ergo must surely have eventful sexual experiences I tried so hard to justify what I had read in my efforts to get into this story but I couldn t unless I imagined this book was set in a different planet or dimension where stunningly handsome adult men working in sex toy companies are inexperienced prudish pillow princesses who can only get off via self help sex toys operated by another Further why oh bloody why of all the exciting sex toys ever known to perverted mankind out there would they choose to use the most BORING ones THEY WORK IN A FREAKING HIGH END SEX TOY COMPANY It made me want to cry Seriously Is it this book s objective to make sex toys out to be so boring Because if that s what this was going for then I ll concede that it succeeded I am just so glad this book was not my introduction to sex toys and that I know better or I d be turned off from them for life which horrifies me to even just think it Okay I gave in to a rant there because the sex scenes and the unromanticness of it all were really a huge disappointment But even if let s say the sex wasn t the highlight of this book even if it s tagged explicit the rest leaves much to be desired as well The plot is shallow there is no real conflict The pace is meandering and lacklustre and does nothing to make the flow engaging the narrative spills off in numerous tangents obsessively zeroing in on side characters like they were important than staying on track and focusing on much needed development of the almost non existent romance between the two main leads The whole story hinges on the MCs being wishy washy and malcontent despite being incredibly well to do than most people post pandemic making them seem like petty ingrates again reminiscent of prepubescent behaviour which is fine if this book was indeed intended for young adults I guess teenagers would be able to relate I couldn t find it believable because I am way past teenagehood though. Thriller Other than that Several times the writer breaks out of the character s respective POV we get insertions of Tyler s personal POV even in supposedly Danny chapters and vice versa The dialogue especially between the MCs are super cringey often than not e. Thriller michael jackson g I can t even manage words Indeed they sound weirdly perfunctory like they re having an obligatory cuppa somewhere else rather than inundated with post coital bliss The MCs have no chemistry at all emotionally or physically or even mentally though I think this boils down to the emotionless writing which is a shame because there was a lot of potential there for a great romance Tyler is described as weedy yet the guy on the cover is beefy so who is he supposed to be Because it isn t Danny who wears glasses I can t say I liked this but I really wanted to Its biggest flaw in my opinion is that it was presented in a very boring manner Still perhaps I m just not the target audience for this and I am always rooting for British authored MM romances erotica and because the editor in me feels happy whenever an author knows to use set foot instead of the eggcorn step foot I ll go with It s OK equivalent to 2 stars according to Goodreads rating system instead of a flat out I didn t like it 1 star Gay and Lesbian Romance
