5 I always enjoy when amidst some of the heavier and angst filled reading I do I can fit in some lovely Austen inspired novellas that give me just enough of that lovely Darcy and Elizabeth sweetness to keep my heart happy So I was so excited to jump into this pair of Pride and Prejudice stories one from one of my all time favs in the Austenesque space Amy D Orazio and one from an author L M Romano who is new to me but whose writing was a lot of fun to read This is a lovely duo of short stories that take the reader into small slices of Darcy and Elizabeth s story and imagine some of the what ifs that as a big PP fan I have always loved exploring when it comes to my favorite literary couple Novella 1 No Improper PrideIn D Orazio s story No Improper Pride Darcy is still reeling after his disastrous Kent proposal and hastily written letter He is so sure that he will never get the chance to make things right but fate it seems has other plans for him as chance meeting with Elizabeth in a park give him the opportunity to hear her out and maybe mend things enough that Elizabeth will give him a second chance Of course being the brooding hero that we love Darcy does need a little push and it comes in the form of his fantastically outspoken irreverent and well meaning elder Fitzwilliam cousin Viscount Saye If you ve some of D Orazio s other work Saye has made many an appearance and the injection of humor and honesty that he brings is always so fantastic and often just what Darcy needs to get out of his own head and go after what he truly wants D Orazio is a master at writing well crafted dialogue that feels true to Austen s original characters and it was lovely to watch as Darcy and Elizabeth come to a truer understanding of each other and of the possibility of what love between them can bring Novella 2 Romano s novella brings us to Longbourn as the newly married Wickhams visit the Bennets much to the frustration of Elizabeth who has come to realize just what she has lost in being separated from Darcy Of course Darcy is not far away also thinking about Elizabeth and wondering if he could have done to keep Lydia from marrying Wickham He is resigned to think this will likely mean Elizabeth will never be able to forgive him I loved the way that Romano brings Elizabeth s fire to life as she has many a choice word for Wickham making it clear she knows exactly who he is and who is the better man between him and Darcy Ultimately Darcy decides to come back to Netherfield with Bingley and soon enough truths about Darcy s role in Lydia s marriage come to light However to Darcy s pleasant surprise Elizabeth looks at him not with contempt but with respect and adoration. Without Vanity or Pride book A sister not only ruined but by Darcy s worst enemy George Wickham By some miracle called Fitzwilliam Darcy a patched up marriage replaces ruin The Wickhams visit Longbourn to celebrate their nuptials Unfortunately a brief visit becomes prolonged due to a sprained ankle. Without Vanity or prideinn azure To add to Elizabeth s misery although she knows of Darcy s intervention she is convinced he will not return for her Oh how she loves him now all hope is gone When Mr Bingley returns for Jane Bennet Mr Darcy accompanies him to Longbourn But has he returned for Elizabeth A great novella thoroughly enjoyable. Without Vanity or prideaux auction M Romano s work just as much This lovely duology was perfect for an afternoon carpool and late night read respectively The only thing I can complain about is that they weren t longer but I always feel that way about a good story from authors like these ladies I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book through a giveaway and am voluntarily leaving this review 194 4. Without Vanity or Pride ebookee 5 stars rounded up I enjoyed both stories 194 Only read the D Orazio half she s one of my favorite JAFF authors Though shorter than I would have liked the shenanigans of Lord Saye charmed me yet again D Orazio has created a family that s a perfect avenue to show Darcy s better side in company and this was no exception He and Elizabeth are definitely still in character and it was interesting to see Lady s Catherine s ultimatum issued by someone else 194 Both of these short stories were enjoyable. Book Without Vanity or pride flag The first No Improper Pride has a fan favorite Viscount Saye the colonel s older brother harassing Darcy as they walk in Hyde Park concerning his love life when lo and behold they come upon Elizabeth Bennet walking and eventually gain an invite to the Gardiner s residence Elizabeth and Darcy soon are both offering apologies for offenses especially as to do with the proposal at Hunsford and the subsequent letter he gave her. Without Vanity or Pride book In the second Insufficient Vanity we have Darcy secretly arranging Wickham s marriage to Lydia Knowing the Wickhams are at Longbourn he delays visiting there until he believes they are north in Newcastle Lydia has her part in that delay and so is surprised when he finds them still at Longbourn Wickham has not changed and keeps trying to get Elizabeth alone sometimes as Lydia watches on from her bedroom window Sweet stories 194 Delightful DuologyThis is the second duology recently presented by Quills and Quartos Publishing No Improper Pride and Insufficient Vanity by Amy D Orazio and L. Without Vanity or pridefulness In No Improper Pride Lord Saye goads Darcy until he has his way maneuvering him into a conversation with Elizabeth in Hyde Park that ultimately leads to a second chance despite Mr Bennet s wishes to the contrary Saye entertains his fans we all know who we are with his humour and antics assisted by his beloved Florizel I love this author s witty and lively writing style when Saye is near stirring the pot a fun read is guaranteed. Without Vanity or prideify In Insufficient Vanity Darcy believes he has waited long enough for the newly married Wickhams to leave Longbourn and make their way to Newcastle following their London wedding However they haven t and Wickham is doing all he can to find time alone with Elizabeth L. Without Vanity or prideinn azure M Romano s debut novel Forgotten Betrothal is a favourite of mine and I eagerly anticipated another release from her This short story with its clever twist certainly did not disappoint and I am ardently hoping for even from this talented author.
