Book one of the republic The story is absolutely gut wrenching in the best of ways From the first page raw emotion and high tension grab the reader with an iron claw and there isn t a moment of relief I am in awe at how the author could have such a hold on me within a few words each time I picked the book up and started reading again Nick and his dear Abby are beautifully written I became deeply attached to both of them As Nick tries to fight The Dead while attempting to convince the living that he isn t crazy I became so entwined in his battle that I felt it was my own. Horror one shots 5e A beautiful and melancholic quiet horror novella in different hands this could have become a zombie apocalypse tale but Richard isn t interested in that Yes there s an invasion but by focussing on the minutiae of Nick and Abby s romance and issues it becomes all the powerful With a strong sense of place it s set entirely in Nottingham and with a great location for a cemetery it also has something to say about society now with the zombies able to pass themselves off as the homeless so as not to be noticed The story isn t only chilling but poignant too especially as Nick s backstory rolls out and he fights valiantly to protect an unbelieving Abby Wonderfully paced and written in a crisp clear style this is a thoroughly absorbing story of love Very highly recommended English
