Rumors, Ruin and the dukey's The Duke of Hartwick was never meant to be the Duke he was the second son but when his father and brother are killed in suspicious circumstances Hart is determined to find the answers but this puts him in danger and soon he nearly loses his life as well injured he spends some time at his country estate but he is back in London now and determined to find the answers. Book Rumors, Ruin and the duke energy This is the start of a new series by Karla Kratovil the Lost Lords Not quite sure what the premise of the Lost Lords is from just reading this first book but my presumption is emotionally psychologically adrift versus physically lost missing In this story Hart the Duke of Hartwicke was living a charmed life as the handsome charming second son of a Duke when he unexpectedly and tragically loses his beloved older brother and his father in what appears to be a random crime in the East End of London But he does does have his suspicions regarding their deaths and starts to investigate things on his own while learning to manage the dukedom and his responsibilities which include his great aunt and the ward under her wing and his guardianship Lucy Middleton She has been under the care of his father since the age of 15 and Hart has been the one tasked to keep an eye on her while under their care The story starts with Hart finally gaining a significant lead when a close friend of his father reaches out to arrange a meeting with him and starts to reveal a close held secret to him when they are ambushed by a home made bomb leading to the death of Hart s informant and his critical injuries. Rumors, Ruin and the Duke pdf converter Lucy and his aunt not knowing what has lead up to his injuries nurse Hart and eventually bring him to his country estate to recover But as he gains consciousness he is in pain and despair and rejects Lucy s care and her declaration of feelings for him and force them away from him as he remains in the country to brood and become a recluse nursing his injuries. Rumors, Ruin and the dukeoftokyo The once handsome man is now scarred and injured but Hart is still determined to find out the truth of his family s demise and seek revenge for what he is certain is now murder thus he must return to London Lucy and his aunt discover his return and Lucy confronts Hart not knowing his plans but determined to re engage him in Society and his aunt s life even if she has determined there is no place for herself in his life but still needs his power and influence to help her settle her future as she is pursued by someone determined to force her into a betrothal to gain her dowry. Duke men's basketball rumors When Lucy finds out about Hart s suspicions being a precocious brave insightful woman she is drawn into the investigation forcing them to work together Lucy has never stopped caring for Hart but he is determined to fight their attraction thinking he is too scarred inside and outside for Lucy This is a historical love story twisted around a murder mystery and conspiracy and Hart is inundated by secrets about his family and past that become exposed in his investigation The foundation of his world is constantly rocked and Lucy provides him with consistent love and support An exciting story with lots of drama and mystery While there is an HEA and an ending to the mystery there felt to be a number of loose ends as well there were a lot of characters introduced but I was left with questions about what happens to them and their place in Hart and Lucy s life world. Rumors, Ruin and the dukey's But if this is the start of a series does this mean this will be fleshed out in the future 4 stars out of 5 9781962707602 This is my first read by Karla and she has been on my radar for awhile I was very pleased with this story as it has mystery in which Hart Lucy became the ward of the Duke of Hartwick and as his second son Alex took a brotherly and protective role in her life Now she is living with his Great Aunt Trudy and he is the Duke of Hartwick Hart On the night of her twenty second birthday Hart left her party to meet with one of his late father s friends in the hopes of finding out what really happened five years ago as he did not believe that his father and brother were shot in a robbery gone wrong However an explosion ended their conversation and Hart was severely injured After a year of healing and brooding at his country estate Hart returned to London to bent on revenge Meanwhile Lucy had been fending off unwanted suitors including a fortune hunter who was desperately trying to compromise her Even though Hart intervened eventually circumstances and potential scandal required Lucy and Hart to marry There are two interwining storylines in this book One is the mystery surrounding the former Duke of Hartwick and his heir s deaths and the other is Lucy and Hart s love story Lucy is one smart and unconventional lady and the perfect anticdote for Hart s moodiness Their relationship has some volitile moments but the attraction between them is palpable and their marital relationship is steamy The investigation on the other hand is dark dangerous and full of unpleasant and tragic revelations many of which will break your heart This story is well conceived and well written There is so much going on and the many wonderful asides and details will grab and keep your interest from beginning to end In truth it is a hard book to put down. Rumors, Ruin and the dukes restaurant I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review 9781962707602 A slow start but a great romance and crime novel in one I enjoyed the crime portion investigating Hart s father and brother s death I liked Lucy s character with her kindness strength compassion and not judging Hart by his looks I enjoyed her fighting spirit She would be a good role model for teenagers I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily 9781962707602 So Much WrongThis book had so many things wrong with it that I quickly stopped reading First the author starts the story as if it s in the middle of it not the beginning This happened in several ways Much happens in the prologue that isn t explained at all making the book confusing from the start And the author doesn t get back to crumbs dropped in this early chapter for a LONG time While I don t want authors to infodump they need to provide some context for what s happening If they don t it seems like a lot of sound and fury signifying little as we don t care or know enough yet about the major characters to appreciate what is happening to them or even understand at times That certainly happens here. Rumors, Ruin and the dukey's The author also started the romance in the dark moment that must happen in every romance That s supposed to happen near the end not the beginning Not only are we not shown how the heroine fell so hard for the hero we re essentially just told she did but we don t get to see when the hero shuts the heroine down after she admits to loving him which happened 10 months prior to the first chapter We just learn about it from her flashback The author also is taking too much direction from Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton A gossip rag is prominently featured Though Bridgeton shows the gossip columns as directly naming people that actually didn t happen back in that era People would be referred to as Lord S or Miss B Another thing I wasn t wild about is how the heroine likes to work with a quarterstaff I can t get over how many Regency Victorian books have their heroines be closet or not so closet pugilists fencers and partakers of other such era appropriate masculine pastimes These bygone eras have an inherent beauty not appreciated by so many authors who write about those times It s like they want to make the heroines modern instead of appreciating and exploring the limited social roles of women back in those times Reflecting reality would be fodder for many books and much appreciated by us old school historical romance readers If you just like to read Regency or Victorian romance and this book straddles the line between the two eras and don t really care about these details as I do you may enjoy this book better than I did. Rumors, Ruin and the Duke book 5 starsI was so happy when I found out Karla Kratovil was releasing a new historical romance series She s a newer name on the scene but I thoroughly enjoyed her Maidens of Marbury series This book gave me the wonderful characters I have come to expect from this author I love how they loved each other. Rumors, Ruin and the duketon mining Lucy was taken in by the Duke of Hartwick when her parents died when she was a teenager Both of his sons were older than her and already out of the house so to speak but they still looked out for her Of course Hart the now Duke of Hartwick couldn t help but notice Lucy when she came of age She is full of joy and optimism She always made him smile but he felt that wasn t proper and made sure to give her a wonderful time traveling with his aunt as a companion. Rumors, Ruin and the Duke booking When Hart has a horrible accident and hides himself away for a year he is shocked that showing back up in London has Lucy knocking on his door and insisting there is to life than revenge and wallowing He cannot resist this grown up Lucy with her brilliant mind and sharp tongue Lucy has always had feelings for Hart feelings that grew the older she got She is determined to bring him back to life even if that life won t be with her. Rumors, Ruin and the Duke kindle reader Both Lucy and Hart have secrets but I love that those secrets aren t dragged out They are incredibly honest with one another even when that honesty is hard It s a good thing they are though as it only brings them closer together These two are so supportive of each other There are times they don t agree with how to go about things but they never dismiss the other s feelings or ideas out of hand.
