It was pretty much all this book had to offer and I had a hard time following it or getting into it I was very bored from the start Some of the characters were alright but I feel the book was severely lacking in building any kind of emotional attachment to anyone or anything It felt rushed I almost DNF 100 pages in but I have never not finished a book and didn t want to start now Heir to Chaos Heir to Chaos is a great find of a book It delves into the depths of darkness and takes you on a thrilling journey through a fantasy world The author s descriptive language creates a vivid atmosphere that immerses you in the story The characters are well developed.

I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars Recommended Heir to Chaos Thank you to the publisher for my free copy for an honest review Ordinarily I find very descriptive books quite annoying but it worked in this book I could feel the ominous atmosphere from the prologue which hooked me from the start Not to mention a lot of action in the first few pages Did I like Deven at first That s a no but as the book moved along he matured and I realized his asshole demeanor came from pain of losing his mother at a young age and never seeing his father while being raised by the servant named Hefrum The action will pull you in from the start so prepare to become annoyed when you have to put down this book to tend to life obligations I have a new fantasy genre author now Heir to Chaos Loved it Was hooked after prologue.

I won this in a Goodreads giveaway for an honest review Although the world building and war politics seemed okay and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat I highly recommend it if you enjoy dark fantasy adventures It s a captivating read that will leave you craving for Heir to Chaos Death is in the palm of his hand For centuries the Great Spectators protected the innocent from becoming collateral damage in an endless series of wars that ravaged the continent of Taldera And after peace arrived they finally disbanded and their deeds became legendary Now in times of comfort Deven Fortem son of one of the last Great Spectators is quite happy neglecting the responsibilities of a young lord and wasting his days in the taverns of Kalverif conning cocky fools out of a few drashiv and drinking till he forgets But when Deven discovers his latent abilities in Palm Sorcery a magical gift long thought to be extinct he finds the path laid out before him may not be so easy to stray from And when the handservant of Fortem Manor is found dead on a dusty quiet road Deven quickly realises that he may have to show the same courage that his father possessed on the battlefields of old As war threatens to consume the continent an emotionless sadist long thought dead will force Deven to face betrayal death and a question he never Can he survive when the sins from his father s past come back for blood or will he become another casualty of a soulless evil who basks in the bloodshed of his victims Heir to ChaosHeir to Chaos by Adrian HolmesAs Deven learns of the mysterious death of a servant from his manor he is vaulted into a world of mystery and chaos Being the son of a legend certainly comes with a world of leisure but also one with tremendous responsibility His father Lord Byram Fortem is a renowned Great Spectator Now appointed the Watcher of his town of Kalverif Byram is unsure of his son s ability to assume the same mantle On the way home from a night of drinking at the local pub Deven is put into an eventful situation in which he learns of his power he is a rare palm sorcerer like his father The added pressure of his foe Giles Fellor a man who believes it is his birthright to become a Watcher has Deven questioning his casual lifestyle Perhaps he is destined for and with the incoming threats from his enemies he begins learning the ways of palm sorcery The walls are closing in will Deven be able to master his power in time I enjoyed the setting immensely At its surface it always seemed of a medieval backdrop with magical undertones The novel separates itself from many other fantasy novels I have enjoyed which include your typical wizard warrior and dragon Mr Holmes has done a fantastic job of writing Deven which invites the reader to come along the journey of seeing him grow and mature Likewise the cast of Enemies was long but equally written to draw my ire on many occasions the hallmark of a great read The story was plausible in most conceivable ways allowing for a smooth yet diabolical endeavor Summarizing this book would be like walking into a store looking for a Snickers bar Next to the Snickers is a Milky Way a bar you have never eaten before In a leap of faith you purchase the Milky Way and discover that it is equally as good as the Snickers albeit in a different way A well written fantasy novel one that I am sure most fans of the genre will enjoy For this reason and had to see what happened to Deven.
