Whispers Across a Sea: A Novel of Victorian Ireland By Christina Holloway
Whispers Across a seafarer
Especially since some of my own ancestors immigrated from Ireland in the 1880 s This story explores the class differences between the upper class Anglo Irish and the working class Catholic Irish This is also a novel about strong women taking charge of their own destinies You can t help but feel affection for the characters you can tell the author holds deep respect and love for each and every one of them An epilogue fills in the gaps between fact and fiction and leaves your curiosity satisfied Whispers Across a Sea A Novel of Victorian Ireland An enchanting story of an Anglo Irish family during the Victorian era Beautifully written.
#heading[2]Whispers Across a Sea was inspired by a cache of family letters found by the author and she has woven the spirit of her personal family history into this novel that centers on the changing times of the late 1800 s Victorian Dublin I enjoyed learning about the social context and challenges of the time captures the heart of Ireland didn t want it to end Whispers Across a Sea A Novel of Victorian Ireland This is another one of those if you love history you ll love this book books It was a great read Whispers Across a Sea A Novel of Victorian Ireland I really enjoyed this novel The story has been written thanks to letters as well as diaries found by the author about her family s life I found it very interesting how Anglo Irish lived next to the Irish in Dublin from 1875 till the beginning of the 1900s The author s family belonged to the Anglo Irish group the privilege class in Ireland I found it fascinating to see how this family two sisters and their father was not fully aware of what was going on outside their house of brewing riots They were good people trying to help others also talked about equality They also implemented in their school for young ladies elements of the Irish culture and traditions which is definitely a good point However it seems that the sisters were interested in feminism than really fighting against the unfair politics towards the Irish people Indeed many of them felt pushed to leave their own country to try their luck in America in order to leave poverty behind How unfair is that They are Irish the country should belong to them I enjoyed the details given by the author at the end of the novel about what became of her family in the 1900s Definitely a great read I received a digital copy from NetGalley and I am leaving voluntarily an honest review Whispers Across a Sea A Novel of Victorian Ireland Christina shares a special story of Ireland life and love made even better by being the story of her family She did a great job of weaving history with wonderfully developed characters to provide a glimpse into a troubled time with real individuals and family Characterization of the Irish conflict builds the story and people An interesting and enjoyable read Whispers Across a Sea A Novel of Victorian Ireland
