PDF THE SUN singer heavy
When his prayers go unanswered and Vivian dies in childbirth journalist Ethan Tellinger curses God turning his back on a life of faith Five years later their son is diagnosed with a terminal disease and given a few months left to live Desperate to find a cure Ethan follows up on an anonymous tip of a miracle worker living in a Palestinian refugee camp To the locals he is known as the Forever Man but when Ethan arrives in Jenin on the auspices of a human interest story he is shocked to discover the mysterious refugee claims to be the one and only Jesus of Nazareth the Son of God newly returned to Earth from Heaven to redeem the world Aware of his doubt the Forever Man invites Ethan to follow him for a year With his son dying and the world struggling to reconcile an existence living with God in the flesh Ethan witnesses firsthand the Forever Man s astonishing power and love for people Ethan is certain he knows the Forever Man s true identity until one day he is led to a place he never wanted to returnthe Garden of the Sun Singer THE SUN SINGERWhen I requested The Sun Singer 2024 by Coti de Laine as an ARC from BookSirens I expected a modern fantasy novel in the vein of current popular retellings of myths such as Madeline Miller s The Song of Achilles 2012 or Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad 2018 What I got however was simply a Christian religious novel about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ The Sun Singer follows American journalist Ethan Tellinger s dealings with Denim Guy also known as The Forever Man who he struggles to accept as Jesus returned to Earth Tellinger is invited to follow Denim Guy around for a year and has permission to report freely on anything he sees or hears Denim Guy seeks out the lowly and the poor everywhere performs miracles and spews forth a lot of word salad about what it means to be his follower This quickly becomes rather tiresome as it is purposefully veiled in mysticism and very contradictory The author is obviously himself a person of deep faith yet he still manages to give the impression that to be a true follower of Christ is the most tedious business imaginable. EPub THE SUN singer heavy After a lot of waffling what I eventually gathered from The Sun Singer which in my opinion should have been titled Denim Guy is that following Jesus equates to being an ethical person with good moral values no faith necessary This I m sure is not the author s intent as evidenced by the ending of the book which I will refrain from spoiling in this review Though to be fair the author does reject most of the churches currently purporting to practice Christianity This is also when it becomes most obvious that the book is written by an American author for an American audience However I do wonder if Coti de Laine is a pseudonym as I have been unable to unearth any information about the author whatsoever Perhaps in the expectation of controversy upon publication All in all I sadly did not particularly enjoy this book but suspect I am not in the target audience so that s alright Kindle Edition I don t think I was the target audience for this book I hate to give such a low rating but I didn t connect much with the characters The plot felt lacking a bit I was hoping for of Ethan s story with his son to be fleshed out It also felt a bit heavy on the Forever Man s monologues and at times got a bit preachy I think I expected a subtle down to earth story about finding God in those around us yet instead we got several larger than life situations interspersed between blocks of sometimes confusing dialogue It took me out of the story a bit at times Overall it wasn t terrible but definitely missed the mark and was not for me I did enjoy the general idea and some of the takes on controversial organized religious views with the big point here being that claiming to be pious does not automatically equal piety Outside of the content there were a couple errors typos but otherwise no issues. Book THE SUN singer island My rating system is as follows for reference 1 star would have DNF d2 stars not for me but some redeeming qualities3 stars an average book that I would recommend to the right person4 stars a good book that I would recommend to most people overall very enjoyable5 stars top tier recommend to everyone might even re read at some point Disclaimer I received an advanced review copy of this book for free and this review reflects my honest opinion Kindle Edition A light and enjoyable read with unexpected depths for anyone who enjoys their fantasy tinged with Christian based philosophy and imagining what the world would be like if some of its problems could magically be solved. THE SUN SINGER bookkeeping Even though it reads like a fantasy mystery novel The Sun Singer asks deeper questions What would it really be like if Christ returned to Earth Where would he go Who would he talk to What would the establishment think of him Would the evangelicals accept him The Pope Would the Rabbis believe he was the Messiah come at last In this incredible adventure story an American journalist Ethan Tellinger shadows a man who has been reported to be living in a Palestinian refugee camp The people call him Forever Man but the rumour is that he s Christ himself Ethan is torn he has a very particular motivation to believe because his young son Sam is dying When he meets him he finds an unassuming man dressed in blue hence Ethan s name for him Denim Guy Over the course of a year he will see his amazing power to gain people s trust to comfort them and to seek out those in distress He even sees him perform unbelievable miracles Yet he also seems like a normal guy whose first thought in arriving in the USA is to eat a Big Mac There are some lovely funny moments as well as tense and scary encounters. Book THE SUN singer by john I love how Denim Man explains how nobody seems to have noticed that Jesus has returned to earth Nobody noticed when he rose from the tomb why should they notice now His followers have given up truly expecting him to return As to his ramshackle living conditions in a refugee camp You should have seen where I was born This is typical of the humour in The Sun Singer It s a funny story even though it had a message. EPub THE SUN singer-songwriter This would be a fabulous book for a Bible study group to discuss because it s so full of ideas It quotes the Bible liberally but also boils the message down into conclusions that may differ from the ones that churches traditionally embrace And as a wise rabbi says the religious texts can be interpreted so many ways Like a diamond why should we accept only one truth as the one I can imagine many people might consider this book rather blasphemous but I would argue it highlights exactly the basic truths of Christianity and how to live a faithful life It s not in Bible study church attendance or the like it s in small everyday acts of service love and humility Televangelists megachurches and the people who run them do not get the Denim Guy seal of approval You think I m asking you to jump over a mountain But I m not I m asking you to take a single step Start by following me where you can follow Understand only what you are capable of comprehending Believe in me with the faith you are given not the faith you wish you had I m not asking you to finish the race tonight I m asking you to run the race Your mountain might always be there in front of you All have sinned and all keep on sinning If someone says they have no sin they deceive themselves However don t be put off by the religious part Even though Denim Guy gets plenty of airtime to discuss what he expects his followers to believe there is also plenty of action with Denim Guy and Ethan jetting around the world to alleviate suffering as well as meeting various dignitaries There are miracles large and small and some new parables Some of it went right over my head some of it resonated deeply. Book THE SUN singer island The subplot of Ethan s son is very lowkey but has a crucial role to play in the story There s no guarantee there will be a happy ending because don t the good always die young Isn t an innocent child going to a better place Suffice it to say all will be revealed by the end of the book: Book THE SUN singer crossword Disclaimer Thank you to Book Sirens for the free digital review copy of this book My review reflects my true opinions after reading the book Kindle Edition
