Gawain rising impact
Mhari a badass Pictish warlord Gawain a King s youngest son whose determination to prove his worth leads him on a strange quest to hunt down and challenge a mysterious green manAnd speaking of green this book is very green The setting and the descriptions of the landscapes and steadings they come across were some of my favourite parts J P Harker captures that beautiful wild Scottish landscape so well though I am a little biased I couldn t believe how quickly I got through this I practically devoured it read all 348 pages in less than 12 days You guys know my eyes aren t the best so a book this size would usually take me maybe two months I just couldn t stop reaching for it Definitely keeping my eyes open for the second book I want to know where the story goes from here especially with certain characters fates I m leaning into how I felt my reading experiences with reviews these days rather than typing up plots because 1 The thing I enjoy about reviews books.

And the opposing view of Mhari a Pictish raider of the North. Gawain kindle unlimited I really enjoyed the start of this book as it explored an Arthurian Britain being held together against raider by warlords and fighting With our main character Gawain we see how this time is still full of fanciful magics and contradicting religions as he worships both the old gods and the new Roman god Mhari s chapters for me were a highlight as the showed her drive to be the best fighter she could be whilst also trying to raise in the ranks over her cultural dynamic This viewpoint whilst sparse really helped me stay in the world whilst I was waiting for Gawain s story to reach the intensity that Mhari s started at Overall I did enjoy this book and will read by J. Gawain kindle books 5 1955196265 This was a really fun read I went into this book knowing very little about Gawain and the legends surrounding him so it was really fun to go into this Arthurian coming of age story I really enjoyed how the traditional story of Gawain ran alongside Mhairi who is a fierce raider and chief and definitely on the grittier.

And I m so curious to see what they ll do next. Gawain in english P Harker and would highly recommend both this book and the Caledon Saga I m really excited for the future of this series and absolutely can t wait for the books for the other knights I received a copy of Gawain for review from the author thank you All opinions are my own 1955196265 4 4. Gawain kindle books 5 starsHeadlines Arthurian historical fantasySuch easy writing to slip intoFeminist stanceGawain pulled me into the story so quickly because it was interesting immediately and the writing was so easy to engage with Gawain himself was a 17 year old brash.

4. Book gain city aircon servicing 5 stars Okay straight off the bat I want to say that I REALLY enjoyed this I was a little apprehensive since although I love folklore I m not very familiar with Arthurian myths so while I can t speak on the accuracy I can say that I don t think previous knowledge is needed it s still enjoyable and easy to follow It s not a super complex high fantasy I mean that as a compliment sometimes I don t want eight different character POVs or to have to look up what something means in a built in glossary every other sentence Less complicated lesser It has two POVs in general is how people interact with them 2 I m probably gonna look up the blurb on my own anyway if the book catches my eye THAT BEING SAID Avoid the blurb for this one imo It has spoilers Thanks SO much to the author for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review 1955196265 I was sent an ARC of this book for an honest review This book follows the story of a young Gawain living in Britain during Beltane violent side of the book I would be remiss if I didn t mention the battles where as ever J P Harker s writing shines They are always so much fun to read. Gawain jones I think the worldbuilding was particularly impressive as the action takes place in such a melting pot of religions and cultures so it was really interesting to see how this was explored Gawain himself is torn between both the older Gods and Christianity and I really liked how the discussion around religion never dismissed other beliefs but highlighted parts of each of them I think the inclusion of Beltane at the beginning of the book really helped to reinforce a solid sense of place and helped to establish the ways of Gawain s people and it was a really fun section too. Gawain kindle books One of the only things I think could have been improved was that the end was a little quick for my liking while the rest of the book was very well paced But overall this was a really good book I received a copy of the book for review from the author but all opinions are my own 1955196265 Read this before bed fully intending to read 1 or 2 chapter Wound up reading the whole thing as I didn t want to stop Throughly geeked out as not only covers Gawains meeting with the Green Man but being a Welsh speaker I was picking up on all the words that were used as the root of today s language Very well written and would heartily recommend 1955196265 I really enjoyed this retelling of an Arthurian legend Thank you to J. Gawain kindle unlimited P Harker for my copy I thought I didn t know much about Gawain s backstory but as I was reading the Green Man part of the story some bells started ringing A little bit slow to start but once the story picked up pace it gripped me I thought the characters were written well I especially liked Halwen Mhari very strong female characters but in different ways I also have a soft spot for Father Iain but I especially enjoyed how well the battle scenes were written I felt like I was in the middle of it and could picture it very clearly This book is the start of a new series that I would gladly continue to read Also. Gawain and the green knight favourite quote Finish that threat Temar and on tomorrow s march I ll be wearing your bollocks for earrings 1955196265 Lots of wonderful things in this retelling of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Very different in many ways from the original but those differences enhanced the story being told It is very much the first book in what will be an epic retelling of the King Arthur legend but that only makes me excited to read I wouldn t say this books is perfect but the writing is very good Digestible but not simple or basic I feel like I read this book extremely quickly and most of the days I ended up staying up late to read I ll have thoughts on this book when I film my review so be sure to look out for that in the near future I d actually probably rate this close to a 4. Gawain kindle unlimited The book follows Gawain a 16 year old son of King Lot who rules over one of Britain s nations With no battle experience and an older brother s reputation to live up to he has a lot to prove to his family and his kingdom and an unexpected guest on the night of Beltane celebrations gives him the opportunity to do just that The book s second perspective is with Mhari a war chief hoping to be promoted to war lord of a raiding band of Picts Hoping to prove herself worthy of promotion she aims to attack the kingdom of Lothian Personally I have always been extremely curious about Arthurian legends but have never gone out of my way to research and read about them Gawain was a great start into the vast lore following one of the future Knights of the Round Table as it combined fantasy with a well rounded plot that results in the combination of both characters perspectives It was interesting to learn about the history of Britain through a fantasy retelling and learning of the religious and moral beliefs of different nationalities I thoroughly enjoyed the story especially as it picked up towards the end and it ended in a twist that I did not see coming although if you are savvy with Arthurian legends it s probably not much of a shock I will definitely be reading any further sequels to this book by the author 1955196265 I had a good time with this I wasn t super familiar with Gawain s background going into the book aside from vaguely knowing there was something about the Green Man Green Knight I definitely enjoyed getting this origin story and learning about this legend I ve read all of the books in the Caledon Saga that are currently out and it s been cool to see J. Gawain kindle cloud P Harker mature as a writer across all of these Gawain is faster paced than the Caledon books but it s also considerably shorter I will admit that I was hoping for a bit at the end here but this could be influenced by my experience with the Caledon books and getting to really explore events in detail Alternatively it s entirely possible that certain events in the legends of Gawain s backstory are as short as they are here Speaking of the Caledon books it s really awesome to see the similarities and shared inspiration between those books and Gawain For example characters in Gawain shout the war god s name and both this action and name of the god are very similar to what happens in the Caledon Saga As always the battle scenes are superb They re so well described and exciting and I can really picture what s happening Unsurprisingly not everyone is safe This seems like a hallmark of J. Gawain seven deadly sins P Harker s writing and I think this makes the stories so much exciting and realistic because you never know who might be killed It s not all battle though we also have some nice down time with events like the celebration at Beltane It was really great to see this and learn about it but there are also some hilarious moments that happen here Of course there are also some surprises that happen along the way In terms of the characters we re first introduced to Gawain as a boy who wants to impress a girl with a pretty dumb idea he thinks it s great though Over the book he seems to mature a lot and we get to see glimpses of the knight he ll become While he does make mistakes and acts too hastily sometimes he has a good heart and tries to act nobly He s also caught between two worlds of worshipping the traditional gods of his people and Christianity I think this is definitely a conflict we ll see again in future books Halwen Gawain s lady friend seems kind and fierce She gets to have some really great moments that I just loved We also have Gawain s brothers there s Gareth who seems really sweet and Gaheris who is. Gawain's word a bit of a jerk Ultimately both brothers are there for Gawain which was great to see We also have Mabb a fabulous dog companion Finally I want to mention Mhari a tribal chief on the other side I really liked her She s very intelligent and fierce and I loved seeing a strong female leader I very much enjoyed her point of view especially because it really helps bring the story together Of course we also run into some familiar faces from Arthurian legend along the way son of a Lord in the Lothians He was desperate to battle and prove the skills he d been training for Fast forward to Beltaine a visit from the Green Man and he found himself on an epic journey. Gawain and the green knight The cast of characrers in this book were funny and they seemed authentic Gawain s comrades were equally lacking in sense when it came to decisions I enjoyed seeing the home context of King Lot s kingdom but it really seemed to take a sharper focus when Gawain went on his quest There was a smattering of romance in this book which was pitched well There were some great late twists too. Kindle gawain's word One of the things I really appreciated about this book was the alternate POV of Mhari the pictish warlord I loved reading her character how she was viewed as a female warrior and how she commanded her small army of men and women There was a definite feminist tone that felt authentic The Lothian females weren t afforded battle training but those characters were conveyed with some power balance in their interactions. Gawaine j-summa campbell I don t know what I expected from this book but I didn t expect to get as swept up as I was and now I find myself completely invested in where this series is going especially after those final lines of the book. Gawain jones Find this review at A Take From Two Cities Blog 1955196265 Gawain is the first book in a new Arthurian fantasy series by author JP Harker Previously read by this author is Wildcat the first book in the Caledon Saga which I absolutely loved and plan to continue that series soon. Gawaine j-summa campbell I came to read this novel because I was sent an ARC by the author much to my delight I was hoping to get my hands on this one as soon as he mentioned working on the series in his newsletters I have always been a huge fan of King Arthur his Knights and of course Merlin This particular series is about the origins of the Knights we learn about them before they are Knights and the eventual formation of Camelot Gawain is one of the sons of King Lot and this book follows him as he finds himself on his first quest to being a warrior of legend for his people. Galwanizacja The writing style was so easy to read and follow I found myself reading a hundred pages or so at a time because I just didn t want to put it down I loved the themes that were explored here in addition to the story of Gawain how the people were trying to learn to worship the God of the Romans while unable to break themselves of worshipping their gods from before I really appreciated the author showing how difficult that must have been I also loved reading about the customs and traditions of the time while of course looking for Merlin behind every cottage around every corner over every hill. Gawain's word JP Harker has always been a master at writing action scenes and battles waged and this book was no exception I was never once bored never experience a feeling of being in a slog or that any of the story was an info dump of historical fiction All I know is that I am very much looking forward to the next book it will be one that will go straight to the top of the TBR as soon as I can get a copy 1955196265
